I think the last great decade for preschool shows was the 90s, as those shows weren't afraid to be real, or even a little bit rude (blowing raspberries, teasing, etc.) Even SESAME STREET did the blowing raspberry gesture in one episode... that I know of... during the 90s.
I think the last great decade for older kids' shows, however was the early 2010s. At least, that's my opinion. I say that because the shows were actually funny and more wholesome; this was a time before Nickelodeon started using the word "crap" in their commercials (that I know of; I haven't watched Nick except for once last week and that's when I heard that word) or the phrase "[I, you, we] suck" on their shows. (Alvinnn! and the Chipmunks had an episode where Dave was angry and one of the chipmunks said "We suck".
Oh and don't forget Disney Channel today, which I think is just stupid.
However, I think television for the general public is epic and depressing.
It's epic in the sense that the majority of their programs will make you laugh your butt off.
The depressing side, at least in my opinion, is that the majority of comedy series has characters that just don't care about anything or anyone (if someone is hurt, their jobs, etc.)
I'd like to hear your opinions tho! What do you think?
What was the last great decade for television? Kids shows, preschool shows, teen/adult-oriented shows?
Is television still great in the general sense?
Let me know what you think!
