Whenever a fight happened at the high school I went to everyone would run towards it. Wouldn't running away from it make more sense?

Teens run over because they want to see what's happening, and never think that they could get hurt. They probably even find watching the fight entertaining. If they didn't there wouldn't be so many viral videos of it, or so I've heard since I would never watch such trash. :x

Honestly, I did...and still would.

For one thing, something is finally happening at this school! Everyone's going to be talking about it later. It's a chance to get in on a conversation, which I struggle with.

Some kids want to record it, of course. And if they're not apart of the people fighting, they're probably pretty safe as long as none of them have beef with you. Also, teachers will come running over in no more than a minute.

I remember this happening. Over half the school would be heading towards wherever the fight was taking place. My school had about 1000 students, so that'd be a few hundred gathering to see a fight. That's an awful lot of people.

It's sort of like why people used to go to the Colosseum in Ancient Rome.

People like to see spectacles.

My high-skewl never had fights but it was a Catholic skewl. I think kids run towards them for the same reason people watch kung-fu movies, violence is entertainment

For the same reason people strain to get a look at a traffic accident or watch horror films; morbid curiosity.
People have a need to personalize, categorize, understand and vicariously survive intense and unusual circumstances.

Because they want to be a part of the action.

'cause they're thrill-seeking immature little whippersnappers.

They are more bored than scared.
Then again my school has only had one fight and I haven't been in a fight since middle school.

I never witnessed any fights in high school. (There were a few, but I wasn't where they took place.)

But a lot of people would approach fights in junior high and elementary school.

I liked to see what was going on and who was involved but I also wanted to stay far enough away that I didn't accidentally get injured by the fighters.

They probably don't know where they are going or are seeing funny lights because of the plethora of illicit drugs they have consumed. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

I remember trying to get to class when the hallway was blocked with a bloody scene, splattered blood on the floor and walls, some fella kicked and beat to a pulp some other fella who it turns out had impregnated his younger sister. the vice principal came by and rudely grabbed the beater by the scruff of the neck and hauled him down to his office.

Rampant curiosity and hormones.
