Why is it common for NTs to answer a question with a question?

I.E.- where is the restroom “ why, do you need to go”

What time is it “why do you have somewhere to be”?

Etc etc.

I like simple replies.

Most people don't do this stupid crap with the restroom and the time, though.

They do it with other things, though.

Those where examples.

Actually the time example seems pretty consistent in my area.

I don't remember the last time somebody said to me "time to get a watch" when I asked for the time.

I just walk away from people like that unless we're all kidding around.

NT people are generally not like that. You just ran into buttwipes.

Now someone at work asked me why a student was in the bathroom.

"Honey, what do most people do in the bathroom?"....she shut up real quick. This was a student intern.

"Curiosity killed the cat," is my response when people answer questions with questions.

Often it's simply for clarification.

For example...

If "Human" replied, "it's on the table." without knowing what they were talking about, it wouldn't help "Person".


Or...

"Somebody" may decline to answer the question if "Individual" doesn't have a valid reason for the request.


Or...

That would save time vs. "I don't know." and could give you an interesting option that might have been overlooked.

No, I don't need to go, I'm just pointlessly asking where it is.
