Though I prefer TOS, TNG, and Voyager as series the Deep Space Nine final season episode Chrysalis is among my favorites. Sarina is one of my favorite characters in the whole franchise.

TNG and Voyager actually felt like they had very supportive roles for women Actresses . Capt Janeway ,
And 7 of 9 , helped me out in my lowest emotional days , They actually felt good to watch . Alittle sense of inspiation

Representation is part of the point of Star Trek. Discovery has a nonbinary actor/character as of the third season and a gay relationship between men almost since the beginning. The end of Picard's first season potentially added a lesbian relationship there.

We only see things from the Federation's side. Of course the officers tow the party line. Perhaps the Federation is really Earth's empire. The other "members" pay tribute to the humans in exchange for protection. Some of these other species are allowed to join Star Fleet for appearances, but it's really all controlled by Earth. Far as I know, nearly all federation colonists are humans. You rarely see other federation species being allowed to settle outside of their home planets.

And of course the Federation government likes to claim all these planets are voluntary members in a co-operative, peaceful endeavor. It's less harsh than the Klingon and Romulan approach.

A scenario like that almost occurred in Deep Space Nine during the war against the Dominion, when a group of Humans (never saw any aliens onscreen on their side as far as I can remember) in Starfleet tried to essentially establish a military dictatorship by overthrowing the Federation Councils non-human president to 'protect' earth, but was averted.

Quote:
The Federation Council is the unicameral legislature of the United Federation of Planets. Seats on the Council were filled by representatives from the various Federation members.
