Do you remember when Sheikh Muhammad Al-Munajid, former diplomat at the Saudi embassy in Washington D.C, called for the head of Mickey Mouse? He decreed that household mice and their cartoon cousins must be “killed in all cases”. Then extended the decree to include Tom and Jerry.

Yep. I wasn’t allowed to join the Girl Scouts as a Jehovah’s Witness.

Is that still the case?

Yeah. Jehovah’s Witnesses can’t join Boy or Girl Scouts because of patriotism. They are against patriotic values. Also, they try to limit contact with nonJWs (“worldly” people).

So … they've traded one stupidity bubble for another. Neato.

That reminds me of the Simpsons episode in which Bart has to stay at the Flanders house for a while.

Bart: Hey. Where's the dice?
Todd: Daddy says that dice are hexed.
Rodd: We just move one space at a time. It's less fun that way.

LOL So spot on!

I have many fond memories of watching The Simpsons with my brother when my parents weren’t around.

Don't remember that. I can understand a Muslim objecting to Porky the Pig, but not to Pixie and Dixie.

I wouldn't be surprised if Mickey Mouse represents "Western Decadence," or some such thing.

A symbol of the "infidel."

Arian Christianity was also persecuted during the Middle Ages.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arianism

Arian Christians believe that Jesus was subordinate to God, rather than being the same entity as God. Seems like a minor difference? Well … the Medieval Catholic Church regarded it as heresy. The Arians were persecuted over a very small difference in belief.

The is something that modern Christian conservatives often forget. Today, protestant and Catholic right-wingers often unite against what they both perceive as "sexual degeneracy" … but every Christian denomination had every other denomination in its crosshairs until recently.

… but the right-wingers still want us to believe that atheism is totalitarian and intolerant.

Squirt guns

If your kids have squirt guns, they’ll go on killing rampages when they’re older.

My maternal Grandparents were Christian Scientists. They don't allow conventional medicine of any sort. Apparently, you can pray yourself well. It's lucky that my Mother and Uncle had no serious illnesses as children. They'd have died. Both of them escaped with only rotten teeth (yep, you can pray your way out of tooth decay). My Grandmother had a stroke (we think) at 80 and no, the Doctor was not called. My Grandfather did not call the Dr. when he had severe chest pains. He died of a heart attack two days later.

I know an old Italian who's father forbade him to play cards because the Mafia plays cards and because if you have time to play cards it means you're spending enough time working.

I was watching a video about weird waiters and costumers yesterday, and one waitress said a bunch of church-goers wouldn't tip her because they believed tipping is a form of prostitution. :?

Sounds more like an excuse to be cheap.
