I know it feels nice when your hair is washed and dried and looking/smelling nice. But if I had my way I'll only wash my hair when I wanted, which would probably be about twice a month. Sure, greasy hair makes me feel dirty, but it's OK if I tie it back.

My mother gets on to me about not washing my hair, especially if I haven't been doing anything all day. She's like "you've had all day!" I hate it when people say that. Sometimes I really, really don't feel like washing my hair, and I put it off 'til the next day. I just don't like my hair being wet, and it takes so long to dry because it's thick.

I feel I have to wash my hair for social approval. I don't really want to go to work looking like a skank. Plus I tend to get stares from strangers in public when my hair doesn't look it's best, and I hate being stared at. So I only wash my hair to keep my dignity.

Anyone else feel the same about washing their hair?

Completely agrees with this . Am plenty tired by the time of the day, when one might wish too wash their hair. :(

I hate the wash my hair, I hate to bathe and I hate to shower. I hate washing my body! I know it has to be done so I do it, I had always hoped I’d outgrow that feeling because I love swimming but no it feels as if the older I get the more will power it takes to do what must be done.

It’s exhausting. I love dry shampoo because it allows me to take a day or two between washes.

If people in public places didn't give me stares when I have unwashed hair, I would only wash my hair like once a week, or when I felt like it. It's my body, I should choose to do what I want with it. But no, strangers have to interfere and make me feel ashamed.

Obviously I don't let my hair get disgusting to the point where it will gross everyone out, but I'm talking about when my hair is just getting greasy "around the edges". NTs have such perfect attention to detail you know... 8O

I have always put off showering for way too long and i recently realized it’s because i dislike the transition. when i’m dry i want to stay dry and when i’m wet i want to stay wet, so I’m okay being in the shower and i like being clean after but i don’t like getting in to the shower or getting out and drying off

My hair is usually disgustingly greasy. My last ex was obsessed with it going like that because supposedly hers didn't get greasy, it just dried out.

Story of my life. I also had a no poo policy, but eventually I integrated one shampooing among mask and conditioner washing just because the shampoo is really good at dimming the yellow shade of my blond parts and its SLS free.

Dry shampoo needs to be washed out quickly otherwise it stops hair growth and irritates my scalp so the scratching damages the scalp further increasing the issue, so it beats the point. I tried every dry shampoo, my fav brand was Batiste, but I no longer use it. Otherwise I powdered flour because it's much cheaper than dry shampoo, but the issue is still the same and it's not as effective as dry shampoo. Probably will save me on special events though. But im equally good at looking fancy while hiding my entire hair under a hat.

Honestly think the time it takes me to dry shamp it, comb back and get it looking flawless can actually get me 1 wash for the superficial oils on the hair. I might either way blow dry it with or without washing it and the wash may impact its health in a positive way.

I don't have a problem with washing my hair. I like showering, and I use a prescription shampoo which is really gentle.

My issue is that I hate getting out of the shower. My skin gets very dry and sore very quickly, and it takes me almost an hour to apply moisturisers and get my skin back to feeling comfortable. I'm allergic to lanolin so I have to be very careful what I put on my skin. During the hour while I'm applying and reapplying cream, I'm extremely uncomfortable. Sometimes this makes me want to avoid showers but I have very long hair and it looks terrible if I don't wash it at least every two days.

My hair is pretty thick, so washing it brings up some practical problems. But I get what the OP means about the social side.

That's very interesting, and very surprising to me. I thought the whole point of shampoo was to remove grease (and odor)? Do you use anything else instead of shampoo, or just water?

Do you comb your hair just before washing it, as well as afterward?

If not, I strongly recommend doing so. It will be less tangled afterward, though you'll still have to comb it then, too.

If you do already comb it before as well as afterward, then perhaps an interim combing while washing it, between the first and second applications of shampoo, might help?

If you're already doing both of the above, I'm sorry to bother you with these suggestions. But I thought it might be a good idea to mention them just in case.

I keep a wide-tooth comb in the shower, hooked over a hand grip. I use it to comb through my hair after applying leave-conditioner. It makes a big difference because my hair is also very long, and it tangles easily. I rarely blow dry, but if I do I use one with a built-in wide bristle brush. It really helps.

Ditto, but im not sure what in creams and shampoos gives me allergies and dry itchy skin.

I personally found conditioner is a tangleless and easy way to wash hair and being dyed it appreciates the lack of dryness after using shampoo and the repairs done by all those times using conditioner and hair mask.

Hair specialists state it's not needed to use shampoo, conditioner is lighter and healthier for hair. Indeed it's just acidic and suited for hair very well and has tons of benefits as well as keeps it hydrated and your scalp doesn't produce ss much sebum especially once it gets used to it. Also no SLS, yay! It has washing agents and oils but they aren't as aggressive as the shamp ones. Not to mention it looks fa-bu-lous, colorful and full of life not dull and dry with greasy roots!

Funny I never wanted my hair to be soft and smooth. I skip conditioner most of the time. :) They feel so slimy and gross. Why exactly does hair have to be smooth?

I think it makes it easier to brush. If I don't use conditioner my hair looks unkempt even when I brush it.
