Anybody else building a CNC machine as a hobby?
Recently I tried to build from scratch a CNC routing table and got to wondering if any of my fellow geeks/nerds do the same sort of thing. I don't and won't present myself as any sort of expert on the topic as I'm learning as I go along, but would be very interested if you' tried something similar, that is to say building your own machine. Right now I'm trying to come up with a good tensioning system for the two X-axis drive chains and dialing in the feeds and speeds for cutting 6061-T6 aluminum. Aluminum won't be my main stock as I'm going more for wood designs, but I do want to use the setup I currently have to manufacture the final setup parts. My bed size is 28"x38" with enough Z-axis play to go with a 4th axis (X-axis cylindrical rotation). Using Vectric Aspire for design and Mach3 Pro for the station controller.
