It's just an exorcism. You don't have to worry about that. All things considered I think it should be expected that lay observers should be present just to make sure things are as they should be.
If that doesn't ease your mind, consider this: I don't live anywhere near Pennsylvania. Mississippi folks are more open-minded than they used to be, but we are not overly Catholic-friendly down here. If it got out that the same thing in Pennsylvania was happening here, "bad things" would happen. It would never even make the news. People just...oops...vanish.
On a side note, that's precisely why I moved where I live now. I used to live in a nice neighborhood. Long story short, I was having trouble with locals, had crazy people call DHS on ME (what the heck?), house vandalized every few months. Losing our jobs and being homeless for a while was actually a blessing in disguise. We bought a home, all in cash, in the kind of neighborhood just outside the city limits where the neighbors see EVERYTHING, people don't come looking for you, and everyone minds their own business. When things get ugly here, either someone ends up in prison or they mysteriously fade from memory.
I recently watched a documentary called Exorcism: The Battle For Young Minds , it was a real eye opener , I can't believe this practice is still going on
It's on the BBC iPlayer if your interested https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/p ... oung-minds
Edit: Glad you moved to a nicer neighbourhood and left the s**t behind
