It's my new favorite game franchise. I love the story and characters in each game and getting to explore a recreation of Tokyo's red light district is pretty cool. 8)

I also recommend Yakuza Kiwami and Yakuza Kiwami 2. They are good remakes of the first two games for the PS2. :)

Definitely, it's one of Sega's few modern gems! They just even released a kind of pseudo spin off in Fist of the North Star: Lost Paradise that I'll hopefully be playing soon.

You know I really don't understand why people compare the Yakuza games to games like Grand Theft Auto? They really aren't anything alike. You don't even get to drive cars or commit crimes in these games.

Which reminds me I wonder what caused Kazuma Kiryu to want to join the Japanese mafia when he's probably the most moral and big-hearted man on earth? You never see him committing crimes as a gangster in fact he always stops other criminals from commiting crimes or picking on innocent victims.

Obviously being a yakuza was a poor career choice for him.

They actually do talk about that in the games. Kiryu was raised at the orphanage by one of the family heads. It's kind of common practice take in orphans as a means of recruitment for the Yakuza.

I know but he's still not like a typical yakuza at all. The guy has very strong morals and he never commits any crimes. :P

In fact he's always beating up other yakuza guys for committing crimes. Think about the irony in that?

True but that honor in and of itself may have been one of the reasons for him joining as a way of saying thank you for raising him. Not only that but Yakuza 1 and 0 show that while Kiryu is honorable, he's brutally direct and gives no qualms about being a Yakuza leg breaker It wasn't until after 1 and 2 that he started to get tired of the Yakuza life.

I guess that's true.

I really like Kazuma Kiryu as a character because he's not like the typical sociopathic protagonist that we tend to get in these type of crime games. He has a strong concious and a big heart and I admire the way he cares about people including children like Haruka and the kids at Sunshine Orphanage. He's not even the type to hold a real grudge against his enemies and after he kicks their butts he tries to talk them into changing their ways.

The guy is practically a saint. 8)

I also really like Shun Akiyama. Not only was he a great guy too but I liked his sense of humor and his secretary Hana was such a funny and likable gal. I wish that he and Hana would hook up. :D

I'm partial to Goro Majima. While he comes across as a complete psycho he has some surprising depths that are hinted at in 1 - 5 along with Dead Souls and shown explicitly in 0. For all the seeming insanity he's quite intelligent and knows how to run the Majima family as well as the construction business that time he got fed up with the Yakuza life.

Yeah I really like Majima too and he's my third favorite character. He does have a lot of depth to him as a character but mostly I like him for his random craziness and bizarre sense of humor. I think he's meant to allude to one of those Kansai comedians.

Also I love his obsessive man crush on Kiryu. You can't convince me that the guy doesn't have a real "thing" for Kiryu after playing Yakuza Kiwami and seeing him dress as a hostess or perform a pole dance for Kiryu-chan.

Played and beat every game except 3. There was a chase sequence I hated and couldn't get past.

Currently playing the 7th entry Like A Dragon.

Yazkua games are near to the top of my list for my favourite games ever. So, so good.
