Did anyone ever watch this and did you think it was better than some of the other 'Star Trek' series'?

I always liked the changeling scenes, myself... :D

I've seen all of Voyager and Next Gen, as well as some episodes of TOS and season 1 of DS9. I found DS9 to be the worst of them to be honest. I didn't warm up to it at all.
My fave ST series by far has always been Voyager

DS9 was a rip-off of Babylon 5.

I enjoyed the continuing plot arc in DS9, namely the Dominion War. This made its sixth season some of the best in Star Trek. Some Trek fans don't like DS9 much because of how "unTrekky" it seemed, but to me this added to its appeal.

Not really. The shows were actually quite different. That's a bit like saying Stargate ripped off Star Trek The Next Generation IMO.

Deep Space nine is quite good, I have gotten maybe about half way through it. I kind of like the Ferengi characters even though their culture is totally f***d up. But i've been watching Star Trek Enterprise so Ill probably end up finishing that one before deep space nine.

The show seemed to lose focus later on with The Dominion conflict.

I did like the basic premise and it seemed like a strategic situation overseeing the space station as a worm hole port.

Sisko may also be my favorite captain and I liked that he didn't take s**t from Q and slugged him in the face.

DS9 was a different kind of Star Trek. It wasn't the best ship in the Federation exploring the galaxy with the best crew in the Federation, like ENT, TOS, and TNG. I've read a detractor call it "that dirty gas station in space" and that's not far from the truth. So it wont appeal to everybody, even other Trek fans. Its appeal to me was precisely because it wasn't the best and brightest, it was more or less ordinary folk dealing with life in the middle of a terrible conflict.

DS9 was perhaps my favorite Star Trek series, especially after Worf joined the crew.

DS9 is also what I call geopolitical Star Trek. There were very few eps in which a giant space blob tried to eat the station. It was mostly geopolitics in space Tom Clancy style. Again, this wont appeal to everybody, not even all Trek fans.

A new CO takes command of a remote space station shortly after a war between two major star-faring species. On this space station (at various times) are spies, thieves, ambassadors, regular crew, psionic/psychic beings, incorporeal beings, refugees, and government agents. Nearby is a spatial anomaly that allows entire fleets to traverse enormous distances between different parts of the galaxy. An ancient species has been manipulating others to gain control over them all.

Are you following me so far?

I thought it was terrible; by far the worst of the Star Trek series.

To each his own, but I'm wondering why. Was it the fact that it was mostly what I call geopolitical Trek or something else.

Yes, the whole premise of the show was contradicted - there was no actual trekking involved. The stories were also incredibly boring with no really likeable characters.

TNG was one of the greatest TV series ever made (far better than the original series). They've just never been able to pull it off since. Perhaps it has something to do with the absence of Mr. Rodenberry.
