This is very interesting! I never knew that ion drives could be used for atmospheric travel. The article didn't mention the atmospheric altitude limit where ion power can function and I wonder how high and how fast it can ultimately go. It took us 115 years to get us from Kitty Hawk to where we are today; too bad I won't be around in another 115 years to see the fruit of this particular vine.

They can always....reverse engineer those crashed flying saucers they keep stowed away at area 51 (obviously powered by ion drive) to cut down those 115 years. :)
