Why are builders and electricians or generally tradesman so rude?

In my experience they have mostly been unfriendly towards me. My uncle as well is a tradesman and we have never gotten along.

Maybe they're focused on their work and don't like people who might get in their way and ask questions.

Let them do their work, man.

If you distract a tradesman in some trades, physical harm can come to them.

Please, sir....let them do their work.

Actually, is is a good excuse -- a very good excuse.

Tradespeople usually have 10 or more 1-hour appointments lined up for their 8-hour days before they've made their first visit. Stopping to answer every question or to politely ask if someone would mind stepping back and letting them work every 5 minutes turns those simple, 1-hour tasks into 2 or 3-hour grinds with some rude fool constantly looking over their shoulders and asking stupid questions like "Are you done yet?" or "Are you sure you know what you're doing?""

Having been a tradesperson, I know first-hand how rude it is to have someone hovering around and pestering me with their questions and comments while I'm trying to finish the job and get the hell out of there and on to my next appointment.

Even when off duty they have been unpleasant too me. I have been unemployed for 4 years now maybe that’s why they don’t like me?

Maybe they remember how you (or someone like you) have treated them.

How would they know how long you've been unemployed?

You know ... sometimes tradespeople go to bars to relax with friends over a few drinks. Did you ever think that maybe after they've worked all day with lethal voltages, stinky sewage, scalding water, yapping dogs, hostile pensioners, and screaming brats, they would want a little time to relax without being approached by an inquisitive stranger?

That's just the way the ball bounces sometimes....

It would be nice if tradespeople would be more diplomatic and more pleasant--I always like people who are diplomatic and pleasant---but that's just not in the nature of most tradespeople, for whatever reason.

It's hard to be pleasant when you work on a deadline, or when the faster you work, the more money you make for your family.

They might know if I have been unemployed if my uncle told them. Like I mentioned earlier my uncle works in the trade and doesn’t like me because I am not working.

Well, then ... what do you think would be an effective solution?

Hint: People who work for a living will tend to be contemptuous of those who don't work for a living.

True, but it is easy to avoid tradespeople when you see them out in public, and even easier to avoid those public places where tradespeople tend to hang out.

It's just better to try to get a job----to avoid all this unpleasantness for yourself.

A "Jack of All Trades" or a "General Contractor"?
