"Horrible teacher who knows nothing about Santa ruins Christmas for first graders." -- Robert Miller, journalist

Montville, N.J. school officials say a substitute teacher who told first-graders in New Jersey that Santa Claus isn’t real will not be returning to the school. The substitute teacher told the Grade 3 children that Santa and his elves aren't real. She also said that Santa Claus isn't real, Christmas isn't real, Christmas elves aren't real, and that it's all made up. The teacher debunked other holiday characters Thursday, including the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy and the Elf on a Shelf.

I think that the teacher overstepped their place and was being a bit of a meany. What do you think Fnord?

Where do I start?

The pointless/fake/sensationalist stories purveyed by the news media are disgraceful. This is no exception.

I'm no fan of the substitute teacher either, dispelling this myth that the first graders hold so dearly certainly isn't such a kind thing to do. The last thing needed at a school is to have 20 crying first graders because a substitute came in and ruined Christmas for them.

Parents lies? Another term is tradition. This has gone on for almost 125 years, the parents are just doing what they know.

The school officials responded fairly I think, the sub can go elsewhere for work and hopefully learnt their lesson.

At age 5-6 reality hardly exists, their peers will give them reality in a few years anyway, no need to give them undue stress this young. First and second grade for me were nice, the social differences between me and my peers didn't become obvious for another year, then everybody hated me. Let their floating delusions of reality exist for another year, or so, let them enjoy it whilst it lasts.

Commercialism supporting Christmas, certainly not good. With the hollowing of the middle class, I wonder how long this practice can be supported with money? As the Coca-Cola company knows, Santa is just a glorified salesman.

As such, I chose to withhold your ice cream, Fnord!

Almost as good as the one who made a murdered elf crime scene for 4th graders, complete with fake blood and chalk outlines.

Every year the same thing. It's wrong for kids to believe Santa exists, but it's still perfectly fine to kids that God and Jesus and heaven exists.

Some of these morons even think Santa is anti-Christian because his name is an anagram for Satan. I guess that means god must really be a dog, then.

And Santa's modern-day image was *not* created by Coca-Cola. That is a common misconception that refuses to die.

Anyway, I'm looking forwards to celebrating SANTA's birthday.

yeah the religious indoctrination is another bubble I used to enjoy bursting. now not so much... if it gives people meaning that's fine as long as one doesn't force everyone into it

If anyone would care to read the entire article, they would see that the sub said that Christmas itself isn't real, and that it's all made up.

But nobody is ranting about that, are they?
