Every year the same thing. It's wrong for kids to believe Santa exists, but it's still perfectly fine to kids that God and Jesus and heaven exists.

Some of these morons even think Santa is anti-Christian because his name is an anagram for Satan. I guess that means god must really be a dog, then.

And Santa's modern-day image was *not* created by Coca-Cola. That is a common misconception that refuses to die.

Anyway, I'm looking forwards to celebrating SANTA's birthday.

I never said it was created by Coca Cola, they were just the first that came to mind as to a company uses it heavily in advertising.

Regarding the Substitute saying that Christmas is made up, I do hope she went through the trouble of explaining the word origin, "Christ Mass". The status as a Holiday(Holy Day) is given by humans to mark Jesus of Nazareth's birth. For better adoption it was set to coincide with existing pagan holidays.

Does anyone actually claims Jesus isn’t real? Mean most atheists I’ve met say a man named Jesus exists and was killed by the romans the disagreement is that he came back to life

Are you religious Sly?

I need to know before I reply as I like you.

I've been able to get some atheists to admit that a young rabbi named Jesus (a.k.a., "Yeshua ben Yosif") MAY have lived about 2000 years ago in what is now Israel, that he MAY have spoken out against the religious authorities of his day, that he MAY have been framed by those same authorities for seditious practices, and that he MAY have been executed by crucifixion for his alleged crimes.

But, like you implied, they just won't buy into the miracles and the whole "Son of God" thing.

The celebration of the birth of Christ has a much different meaning today than it did in medieval days.

Kids believe in Santa because they want to believe in certainty. They want to be held accountable for their behavior (they really do).

One should read the letter a journalist from (I believe) the New York Sun wrote to a little girl named Virginia, circa 1898.

"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus."

Which Is Worse?

I picked:

The hyperbole and exaggeration of the journalist
(there was no horrible teacher, there was a very good teacher who actually taught the kids, and the only difference to any kids who believed in Santa was whether Santa or their parents give them pressies)

The lies and deceptions of the parents.
(I hate that it is seen as acceptable to tell kids the santa lie, and I'm so glad my parents didn't try to trick me into it, I would have had trust issues with them if they did)

The bigotry and retaliation of the school officials.
(Firing a teacher for teaching kids is insane.)

No, not nothing. An employee was fired over nothing, and that's not nothing.

I get the meaning of that list, but I just have to be literal enough to point out that there are no fertility deity named Yule. Yule was just the old name for midwinter (from ultimo November to primo January).

The biggest problem is the teachers lack of foresight in saying something that would upset little kids and anger parents. The real lesson the kids were taught is, think before you speak.

"Yule" comes from old norse Jól, which is turn comes from an alternate name for Odin: Jólnir or Jólfadr. "Jól" itself has a somewhat unclear meaning, but it might mean "feast". "Jolly" might have the same origin.

Is it Yule the Scandinavian fertility God , or Yule and the Scandinavian fertility God ?

I'll be honest Skilp , I didn't fact check it.

And it's not being literal to point out inaccuracies imo
