The "smartening up" will be learning to become a corporate sellout while pretending to give a hoot about the citizenry.

It'll happen, just give it time :P

Unfortunately you're quite likely to be right. And that's because of the system not her. You need to get the corporate dollar out of US politics.

What did you expect out of the GOP; decorum, courtesy, and mutual respect?

She's young, non-White, non-Patrician, female, a community organizer, and a Democrat (and a Liberal one at that); almost everything they utterly despise. The only thing she could do to enrage them further would be to come out as Lesbian and declare herself Socialist.
But nobody's perfect.

I quite like her.

In my earlier analysis, I describe one of the reasons Republicans fear her was that she is "charismatic". That is a euphemism as is "telegenic". I am going to be autistic, ie insensitively blunt. She is hot. Of course, that is a sexist statement but looks sway votes. It should not be that way but it is that way. If you do not think Sarah Palin's looks had anything to do with her getting the vice presidential nomination and the continued demand for her opinions you are naive. There is a reason the female conservative commentators on Fox News are ahem, "easy on the eyes".

How is it sexist? A man can be "hot" too.

Because I am describing a professional by solely her looks because she is a woman something I probably would not likely do with a male candidate. It is doubtful I would even notice the political opposition fears a male candidate because of his sex appeal. While it is more politically correct to judge a professional man solely or mostly by his sex appeal it is still sexist.

I don't think you're doing anything sexist by just saying it. You already talked about many other things about her, so you're not judging her by her appearance.

She has NO IDEA what she's talking about on ANY issue. She acts and talks like she was elected student council president instead of to congress. If this is who you liberals are worshiping, the Democratic party is doomed (seriously). Socialism has never worked in the history of the world and will never work here. If Biden doesn't win the nomination, the general election is over before it even started because the rest of the democratic candidates are socialists. Socialists are simply un-electable in a general presidential election. Trump would've won at least 40 states against Sanders. Why do you want what happened in Venezuela and is happening in France to happen here?

If Biden does become president, they're gonna have a paramedic crew following him everywhere since he'll be 80 in his inauguration year.

Maybe there is, as David Stockman, of all people, came to realize the truth of the supply side poison he had been peddling.

Nothing really works, because humans don't care much about their fellow humans.

We have to start from there ...

Ageism/Concern about health will work against Trump, Sanders, Biden, Warren, Pelosi. There is a lot of speculation of Trump bieng senile. With the exception of Trump the age issue will work against the female candidates more. It did work against Hillary. I think Hillary fainting right after the Trump campaign spread rumors about her health was more of a factor in her defeat then Russian meddling.

Ocasio-Cortez is the new progressive “rock star” because of her youth.

Because a socialist could not get elected dog catcher in the past does not necssaraly mean one can’t get elected President in the future. The times, they are a changing. For a lot of us baby boomers in our formative years meant, indivldualism, steady jobs, retirement with a pension, and America top dog in the world. To many mellenials/Gen Z it means greedy, narcissistic baby boomers leaving them with lifelong debt, insecurity, and lower standards of living then thier parents. Unlike the boomers socialism is not associated with scary commies. The younger generation is more ethnically diverse meaning they or there parents come from countries where socalism is normal. That is what the fight over immigration is really about. 2020 is still probably too early for an open socialist to be elected President. 2028 or 2032 won’t be.

The coming socialism does not please me. I have seen it abused, I have see too any countries hobbled by it. As an Autistic I think individualism is a good thing. But the reality is what it is. The younger generation eventually pushes the bitching older generation aside and does what it pleases for good and bad.
