This would be better posted on the WrongPlanet subforum. Failing at that, I'd ask a moderator or consult the terms and conditions/forum rules. It may well be that you can't delete your account.

You cannot delete your account.

viewtopic.php?t=204272

Just remove any personal details from your profile and stop posting.

That seems pretty stupid especially in an autistic site where people might not think through the social consequences/privacy consequences before posting...

I mean I like WP but they ought to revise this policy...

The page linked to above includes the following......

"In extreme cases, and at the moderators discretion, one or two posts may be edited to remove personal or sensitive information from members posts. For example if a member has disclosed their real name. However, since we can only do this one post at a time, don't expect us to edit more than a couple of your posts"

......but that is about it as far as actually deleting things goes.

Or people should learn not to dox themselves on the internet, then do stupid stuff.

People should use aliases if they're not 100% comfortable with a specific site and what is going on there. I mean, you wouldn't go "hi, i'm bob bobson on bobsonroad bobtyseven in bobstonville" on a BDSM site, or even use an alias/persona that can be connected back to your real person.

You can ask a mod to ban your account but the data will still be there.

I don't think there's ever been a forum of this type that didn't have the same policy regarding account deletion. It just doesn't happen. However an abandoned account will quickly become buried and forgotten. Especially one that only made a few posts.

I think even in that case a person would quickly become forgotten. Even public figures on the Internet with all their full details available usually don't get cyberstalked.

Just delete the content of your posts---if you can still "edit."

Sandpiper beat me to it.

It's as easy to walk away from this website as it is to come back.

yeah, exactly

the inability to delete one's account isn't a policy, it's a consequence of the site software that's shared with thousands of other forums across the web.

When forums don’t delete accounts, they usually say that if you only want your account deleted because you can’t stay away from the forum, you should change your password to something you won’t remember, then log out. Then if you ever want to return, you can change your password by clicking “I forgot my password.”

Speaking of account deletion, what is the software that runs this site?
