As long as science doesn't get in the way of religion and religion doesn't get in the way of science, it's absolutely okay to believe what you want to believe.

The overwhelming majority of religious people also believe in science.

I think it's because Christianity is associated with the "establishment", and it's more anti-establishment than anti-theist.

If you replaced the word "atheists" with "Muslims," or "Christians," or 'Hindus," I imagine this thread would not have been made it to a second page. Just a thought.

That’s because thr atheists you know were raised as Christians, so they’re most familiar with Christianity. Also when they criticize OT that’s the same as criticizing Judaism.

I made a thread long ago about ex-Muslim atheists and they criticize Islam extensively and brutally, sadly most of the memes links are dead:
viewtopic.php?t=320545

These memes they do are very very bold. You may find them annoying but at least they don’t bomb anyone.

This is definitely something I've noticed, but it tends to be limited to Christian majority areas. It makes sense that if you grew up surrounded by one religion that it would be where you start your criticisms.

=====unrelated=====

I'm an atheist, but one of the most awkward experiences I've had in my adult life involved an atheist coworker who I usually debated with trying to pull me into mocking another coworker for her Christian faith. I'm not a fan of Christianity in the slightest but a significant portion of Christians I've encountered are clearly and consistently good people, I'm not hostile to their faith except for when attempts are made to impose those values or beliefs on others.

I guess not. Prejudice against atheists is still fairly acceptable. There are still laws on the books in some state in the U.S. that prohibit an atheist from holding elected office. No politician can freely admit their atheism because it would be political suicide.

People once believed the earth was flat, (apparently some still do) even though that's been proven wrong.
People once believed that the sun revolved around the earth which has been proven wrong.
Perhaps there is no God and those who believe in a theistic religion are wrong.
Perhaps there is a God and atheists are wrong.

I've had a hard time in my life understanding why a person if anything else, wouldn't be agnostic rather than being concretely atheistic. The earth is incomprehensibly inconsequential in relation to the universe and humans, in turn, are mere specks on it. Rejecting even the possibility of an omnipotent God or creator of the universe and instead believing strongly that the possibility isn't even possible. I don't get that.

Exactly. Notice in my prior statement I did not pass judgement on or malign atheists. I just don't get it and that's Ok.

I guess I am annoying then. Enough religious nutter stories makes me hate religion even more because it's used as an excuse to be homophobic or transphobic or to not take their kid to the doctor and the kid nearly dies from it, parents disowning their kids over religion, parents shoving it in their kids face and forcing it on them and kids being excluded in school from activities because "it was against their religion" and how it made the kid sad and feel so isolated. My mom grew up Catholic and she hated it.

I told my son son once if he wants to believe in god and do a religion, don't ever force us onto it and involve me in it. That is something for him to do alone. If he wants to go to church, he can go when he is old enough but don't ever try and involve me in it.

Rant over.

My mom’s labels of me are: eating disorder, anorexia, social anxiety, PTSD, just being sensitive and having the victim complex when I was a kid. And of course she says I’m normal and says the only thing I had as a child was language. Huh? I must have been a shitty person then and maybe a difficult child I was who had to be labeled because of incompetent school staff and mean kids who didn’t accept differences and because I was trying to be “normal.” :/
