My take.

I think almost all of the content in anime and manga (incl. western comic books) appeals to Chuunibyou, with
the possible exception of girls.

The claim is that Chuunibyou is "8th grader syndrome" and it is normal up to that point and if you still have
it in the 9th grade you are a Peter Pan who never grew up. People who think that way might think autists are less likely to grow up.

Some people say superhero movies are a "cultural catastrophe" but if you go back to the oldest and most durable stories that people have told (epic of giglamesh, greek myths, bible, etc.) it all about people with paranormal powers, imaginary violent events, subcultures to get into, etc.

I struggle with the "Subculture" concept because my "unusual interests" are sincere and certainly not motivated by some effort to impress people or convince myself I am superior. I can just read technical manuals about street lights or mainframe computers or reports about old anti-ballistic missile systems or the such all day. I know though that people with similar motivations frequently get cornered into conversations by NTs in which they will say something that makes it sound like they are "interested in the subculture just to impress people" or "think they are superior" or something.

DQN types pretend to be delinquents, including bragging about the many gang fights they've supposedly been in and drugs they've supposedly used, while clearly never having even been close to a gang in their lives.

Subcultural types latch onto a minority or "alternative" subculture that's generally seen as "cool", pretending to be part of it despite not actually knowing anything about it — think something like a Western teenager's goth phase, without even knowing anything about the subculture to begin with.
