Can it please be. I don't like pressuring myself to be friends unnecessarily but at the same time I don't want to be mean.

The fact of having friends is not a sign of depression, it's something people do all the time, regardless of their health.
However, if people are invading your personal space, you want to be alone but can't get rid of them and you have no power to defend yourself from their intrusiveness - yes, you may be depressed. It may not be a sign, it may even be the cause (or one of the causes).

tbh i'd say quite otherwise. not having friends likely contributes to depression and often is caused by it. lose contacts over time because no energy to keep them. dont make new ones because no energy. maintaining relationships means being safer.

Why don’t you want to be friends with the people you are befriending?
