The Prodigy certainly helped make electronica mainstream in the alternative music scene in America. Electronica had been a regular part of British Indie for a decade.

Fortunately or unfortunately they are most known in America for the song "Smack My b***h Up" which was criticized at the time for being misogynistic. The Beastie Boys asked them not to play the song at the Reading Festival. The band said that that the irony intent was too much for people.

I've never explored their music in any depth but I've always loved Firestarter. I almost bought that album on impulse a while back.
