5 x 2 is 10

Minus

1 + (3 x 3) which is 10

Hence, the answer---Zero.

5 x 2 is 10

Minus

1 + (3 x 3) which is 10

Hence, the answer---Zero.

or it could be: 1 + 3, which is 4, times 3, which is 12.

Then the answer would be Negative 2.

(5 x 2) - 1 + 3 x 3

5x2 = 10 brackets first
3x3 = 9 there are no exponents, so multiplication is second

now you can add / subtract

10 - 1 (equals 9), + 9 = 18

I guess I shouldn't be a math tutor LOL.

I'm not bad in "practical math," though.

Quite right!

It varies in other countries........." In the United States, the acronym PEMDAS is common. It stands for Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication/Division, Addition/Subtraction. PEMDAS is often expanded to the mnemonic "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally".[5]

Canada and New Zealand use BEDMAS, standing for Brackets, Exponents, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction.

Most common in the UK, India, Bangladesh and Australia[11] and some other English-speaking countries are BODMAS meaning Brackets, Order, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction. Nigeria and some other West African countries also use BODMAS. Similarly in the UK, BIDMAS is used, standing for Brackets, Indices, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction."
