How should I have any respect for a smug little rhymes-with-tick like Fnord? That's not how respect works!

I'll let this one pass.

It's true if you believe it.

Belief before truth?

Sounds like religion to me.

And which truth would that be? The true truth or the truth that the public accepts without question until it gets changed to another truth?

Like homosexuality being a mental illness, giant squids never existing, the Food Pyramid instead of The Food Wheel, etc.

Examples of Belief Before Truth can be found at This Wikipedia Page.

I suggest that you give the list a long, hard read before coming back and telling me that anything you believe is automatically true.

Hmmm, but by definition, belief is a truth. That's why I dislike the word truth, because a truth doesn't have to be a fact or verifiable, the only thing that it requires is to be believed. To me it's just a deceptive word, where people tend to think that a truth actually has to be factual or accurate, the word commonly gets abused. We have talked about this before though, so I will just leave it at that.

Truth - a fact or belief that is accepted as true.

I think I have a solution, wonder if it will catch on and be included in a dictionary...

Futh - An event that did occur but cannot be confirmed.
"You don't know what the futh is because you weren't there"

How very odd … that definition appears in no dictionary that I know of, but this one does...

belief (n):

1) a state or habit of mind in which trust or confidence is placed in some person or thing

2) something that is accepted, considered to be true, or held as an opinion

3) conviction of the truth of some statement or the reality of some being or phenomenon especially when based on examination of evidence

Another spurious definition. The actual definition is...

truth(n):

1) the body of real things, events, and facts : actuality

2) the state of being the case : fact

3) the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality

4) sincerity in action, character, and utterance

You can't go 'round making up your own definitions when there are others who know better.

Don't get paranoid Fnord, I'm not so low of a person that I would try to make definitions up. I don’t have a dictionary, I use the Google search to define words, like this...

"word definition"

To regain my trust, type "truth definition" into you google search bar and you should get the same result that I did.

So, the futh of the matter is you were not hear to witness me look the definition up, but I have lead you to the way you can look it up as I did and see I was telling the futh.
