Has anyone tried any of the alternative social media sites that are trying to capture some of Facebook's users? I've seen people talking about Minds, MeWe, Mammoth(?). and a couple of others.

Anyone experimenting with these? Any regular users of them here?

I have the sense that Facebook is gradually dying and am wondering what (if anything) will be rising in its place.

(And if you think "Facebook is too big to disappear," do you remember MySpace? And I bet you've never even heard of GeoCities.) :D

I hope Youtube dies and gets replaced with a video service that prevents assholes from trolling every video with racist and sexist comments. :D

I don't want Facebook or Youtube to die. What will happen to all the pictures and videos of my drawings and crafts I've uploaded if they do? They're about the only way I can show my talents to the world. I'll never be a real cartoonist or a real writer who actually makes a living, so... :(

I only have a Facebook account due to a personal reason that is no longer relevant, hasn't been since 2011, but I just didn't bother to get rid of my account this time around (there was an older one that I closed because I thought FB was nonsense). I just don't use it, so if it goes down, I won't really notice it.

The only other I have is Twitter, which I use a bit more.

I haven't tried any of the others you mentioned, haven't even heard of them to be honest (except MySpace, which I've never used and didn't know was gone"

Yep, I have! But only because I found a blog post there by an autistic guy years ago. I can't recall what it was about anymore, I've read so much more on ASDs since then, but it I liked it at the time, which is why GeoCities registered with me at all

If you haven't saved your own copies, the same thing that happened to all those pages on GeoCities — poof.

"In April 2009, the company announced that it would shut down the United States GeoCities service on October 26, 2009. There were at least 38 million pages on GeoCities before it was shut down, most user-written."

I think FB is dying due to the popularity of things like Twitter & Instagram

You must be, said the Cat, or you wouldn't have come here.

Just use https://telegram.org/ & get your privacy back + unlimited cloud storage.

Facebook must die. They fail to delete at least 20% of murder videos.

TRIGGER WARNING.

I reported a post once because it showed two really young kids pouring lighter fuel on a kitten and setting it on fire while they were laughing 8O

Facebook told me it did not break their rules as it was educational. WTF , I wanted to punch through my monitor at them :ninja:

Actually I know of quite a few people who used to use Facebook and now use only forums or reddit or something like that because they actually care about privacy in a way they didn't use to.

That might be a sign I'm aging though.
