The lyrics, sung in their edgy emotionless robotic style, were "Fahrven, fahrven, fahrven, un zee autobahn" meaning simply "driving, driving, driving, on the autobahn". But I heard it as "fun, fun, fun, on zee autobahn". I still like my version better.
8O Wait, what now? I didn't know that - I've always heard it as the better version.

Overheard on Karaoke Night at a local pub...

Wipin' the Vaseline
Surely makes you lose your mind
Wipin' the Vaseline
  Everything all the time

That guy swore he had the lyrics right.

GAWD!! !!

"Wipin' the vaseline..."

What did he think the song was about?

Changing diapers?

I guess that could make you loose your mind.

Or maybe he projected some kind of kinky sex into it.

Back in the 80s the young boss of the store I worked at LOVED that then new song by the Clash called "Rock the Cash Bar".

The song "Begging You" by Madcon, I used to think they said "baby, baby blue", so when I was trying to find the song on the internet I kept typing in "baby blue" and got frustrated because I couldn't find the song I wanted.
My (Aspie) friend said that it sounded nothing like "baby blue" but I think it did, probably because so many songs frequently use the word "baby".

"Barbara Ann" by the Beach Boys

(A lot of pre-teen boys in my elementary school had a lot of fun discussing how "Ann" got the nickname "Bobber"...)

The lyrics to the 1975 Paul Simon song '50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' contained a misheard lyric:

EXCERPT of lyrics:

You just slip out the back, Jack.
Make a new plan, Stan.
You don't need to be coy, Roy----- [misheard as you don't need to be corduroy (LINK)]
Just get yourself free.

HMMMMMM.. Can avoiding corduroy be a 51st way to...leave your lover?

LINK: Corduroy is type of textile. I remember corduroy trousers.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corduroy# ... n%20fabric.

As a kid I devoured animated movies and was frequently hearing the lyrics wrong. For example, "we two run around all day!" ("free to run around all day", from Lion King)

Two songs I’ve misheard. Nero Forte by Slipknot where in the chorus they said “A house like yours but upside-down!” I thought for a minute it said “I ride horses upside-down!” Then I misheard Mr.Highway’s thinking about the end by A Day To Remember where in the chorus it said “It’s like speaking in tongues for all you know! When will we ever!? Get what we deserve!?” I thought it said “I’ve been speaking in tongues for all you know! When we Evolve! Get what we deserve!?”

Personally though, I like my misheard lyrics better than the original. :jester:

Title of a 1967 hit psychedelic rock song for The Electric Prunes.
I heard until recently “I had too much to drink last night”

Actual lyrics “I had too much to dream last night”

I remember a parody called "Bomb Iran"

"I'd Really Love to See You Tonight", by England Dan and John Ford Coley:

Original:

I'm not talking 'bout movin' in
And I don't wanna change your life

Misheard:

I'm not talking 'bout Bolivians
And I don't wanna change your life

I heard the Counting Crows version of "big yellow taxi" when I was a kid and thought they said pay paradise to put up a F****** lie instead of paved paradise to put up a parking lot.

Barry Maguire's Eve of Destruction:

"You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace! EAT your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace!"

I'm not the only one who misheard the lyrics as such: https://www.kissthisguy.com/eat-your-ne ... -15801.htm

But I agree that the mondegreen sounds better than the original!
