My cousin from Montreal thought O Canada said "We stand on God for thee", instead of "on guard".

When I was in grade school and had to recite the Pledge of Allegiance I would say "one nation, invisible, with liberty, and justice for all...".

One day I scratched my head and wondered it that meant that you could drive from Mexico to Canada with out knowing you had gone through a third country in between because ...we are a "nation invisible"????

From Synchronicity II:

"The way up there that makes a piebald egg" is really "The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache".

In the song 'Jump' by Van Halen, I thought David Lee Roth was singing "Maxwell jump" instead of "Might as well jump."

I thought "Chasing Pavements" was "Chasing Penguins."

The 1981 REO Speedwagon song, 'In Your Letter' lyrics "in your letter" was misheard as "Indiana boogie."

Two examples of misheard lyrics - misheard lyrics can be known as 'mondegreens.'

* Elvis Presley's 'Return to Sender' - lyrics "return to sender" was misheard as "return December."

* Manfred Mann's 1970's song, 'Blinded by the Light' - lyrics "blinded by the light" was misheard as "blind date by the night." (I found-out about the misheard lyrics long after Manfred Mann's 'Blinded by the Light' was released. Regardless, it continues to remain an awesome song!)

Sometimes I intentionally sing the wrong lyrics to songs:

“I can see clearly now that I have my glasses on.
I can see all the popsicles in my way.”

"my great, my great, my greaaat...DANE!! !!" I sing that along with Paul McCartney on the store muzak.

And I join Madonna in singing about how "I threw out my lumbago...it was long ago, but it seems like yesterday". :)

Credence Clearwater Revival - “Down on the Corner”
Actual lyrics - “Bring a nickel, tap your feet”

Misheard lyrics - “Bring a n****r, tap your feet”
For years and years I wondered why this was allowed on the radio.

Brotherhood of Man - "United We Stand"

Actual Lyrics
"And if our backs should ever be against the wall"

Misheard lyrics
"And if our backs should ever be against the war"

What can I say it was 1970 at the height of the anti-Vietnam War protests
