Sultan of Brunei to Introducing Stoning for Adultery

The Sultan of Brunei plans to impose the death penalty for people having gay sex or committing adultery.

Brunei, a former British protectorate, has stated it will roll out new Sharia law punishments from April 3 that include death by stoning or whipping for sodomy, adultery, or rape.

The irony is that the Sultan of Brunei keeps a harem and members of the royal family have committed adultery (including the "devout" Sultan) thousands of times.

Across the straits the Sultans in Malaysia also tell their subjects to be devout muslims and abstain from alcohol and "Kalwat" (being male and being in proximity of a woman). That despite both the Malay royal family indulging in parties where alcohol flows freely and men keep girlfriends/prostitutes.

This is bad that Brunei is going backwards, especially as more countries are legalizing SSM or civil unions.

Unfortunately, there are people who will ignore this because it’s not happening in Mississippi or Alabama.

One of the richest guys in the world (Sultan of Brunei) has suddenly turned pious for some reason.

Islamic extremism is a thing in the surrounding nation of Malaysia. Has been trending for a long time. But Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy like Britain, and quite democratic so its unlikely that they would vote for Sharia law tomorrow. But the Sultan of Brunei is an actual ruler of his little enclave country so can rule as he wishes. Like Arab sheiks his country has oil wealth, so has influence beyond the country's small size. But for the same reason he is susceptible to pressure from abroad because of trade. Foreign companies might stop doing business with them over this.

I remember reading a lot of years ago that the Sultan of Brunei gives his people free health care. Not taxpayer funded healthcare, free healthcare paid for out of his own pocket. Don't know if that's still the case or if it's even the same guy, but it's a shame to see this kind of tyranny.

I'm sure that us invading their country for oil weapons of mass destruction and locking people up to be raped, tortured, stripped naked of their clothes, and beaten to death and then afterwards killing their leader while leaving their destroyed government to fall into the hands of a terrorist group like Isis, won't solve anything.
