New member, problems signing in

I only joined a short time ago (hours). When I try to log in from the log in page or the box at the top of the screen I get an error page saying I don't have permission for that. I eventually managed to sign in by trying to start a new topic while not signed in (expected nothing to happen), which took me to a sign in page that did work.

I mean,I can keep doing that if I have to, but any thoughts about why I can't just sign in normally?

AlsoI'm not allowed to edit my own profile ...?!
