You would like her better as Maude than as that character in Golden Girls.

Maude was a trip.

I'll confess, I like the Maude Bea Arthur better than the Golden Girls Bea Arthur.

Younger people may not ever have encountered Maude. It came before Golden Girls, and was not so widely shown in re-runs. If I recall correctly, a lot of the humor and plots were somewhat topical, which somewhat limits longevity.

True. They dealt with the topical issues of the 1970s---like "Woman's Lib.'
