Hello.
I have recently began to suspect AS very likely in my case. I am now aged 45. This began when i undertook online tests out of curiosity. Results were at the very high end for AQ and very low end for EQ. I have joined this website in order to observe like minded quirks and behaviours of people on the spectrum. I also did an IQ test and was a little surprised that i scored very highly given my fairly crap education. School was a drag from aged 13 and was a running battle between ages of 5-7. Work has been uninspiring in the main though i love the job i do now. I like politics, football, music, travel, consistency. I hate loud noise near my ears, audi indicators, unfairness. I misunderstand what people are getting at fairly often and don't tend to want to socialise outwith my comfort zone. I am undertaking the test to confirm my suspicions about myself. I've been reading lots of relevant books on the subject recently and although I'm a bit raw/wired/unsettled by all this.....I'm confident i will be ok. Too many responsibilities to be overly self obsessed but as i know you will all know, this is a constant challenge...

Welcome to Wrong Planet.

You're the same age I was when I finally discovered that I'm autistic, and your sketch biography has a lot of similarities to my own (and many others here, I imagine.) The raw/wired/unsettled feeling is very common, I think probably more so the longer that we've tried to bumble through without comprehending the root of our behaviours, nor why others perceive them in the ways that they do. After decades of doing one's best to project a "normal" persona, the lines between one's true self and one's facade can become very blurred - so it does take a while to pick it all apart and get orientated. Talking to folks who have lived through it is the best thing you can do, IMHO, and Wrong Planet is a great place to do that.

Best wishes.

Thanks for the welcome and the best wishes.
I don't usually ride rollercoasters but I'm on one now, I'm belted in and the chain has started turning....
