ADOS-I'm pooping bricks! Pressure and stress tend to worsen my cognitive functioning.

Best of luck firemonkey - I'm guessing that a diagnosis would be your preferred outcome.

Build a poop house out of those bricks to pass time.

What are you stressed and worried about ?

Best Case Scenario: You get the info you need to move forward in life.

Worst Case Scenario: You get the info you need to move forward in life.

It's a win / win in my book , you'll get a diagnosis and know or you won't get a diagnosis and told what it is that makes you tick.

Unfortunately not. I actually think I fit non-verbal learning disability better, but that's scarcely recognised in the UK.
Before I was even referred I asked whether the assessment centre covered nvld, and the answer was 'no' . I briefly mentioned nvld during one of the assessments and the assessor had never heard of it.

Uncomfortable, I know; but at the assessment itself, maybe not such a bad thing. It's precisely when we're out of our comfort-zone that our traits often create the most problems in day-to-day life, so it will do no harm for the assessor to see that. But in the mean time, do try to occupy your mind with something else; there's nothing you can anticipate in advance which would make a significant difference to the outcome.

One last tip. You might feel a bit whacked afterwards - so get everything arranged ready to completely wrap yourself in cotton-wool and pamper yourself when it's done, and don't let people badger you with questions about how it went if you need a chance to let the dust settle a bit first.

Best wishes.

Yep, you will need to decompress after it , I will paraphrase what Trog's last paragraph said , make sure people leave you the f**k alone afterwards .

I'm hoping it's everything you've wished for and more :)

My stepdaughter is taking me to do it. She sat in on the three assessments, but I'm not sure she'll be able to on Friday.

The ADOS is happening. She takes me as I'd struggle to get to the assessment centre myself, and for moral support.

My bad , I see what you mean now , she might not be able to sit in on the test. That's a good thing I think , it will be you without your security blanket so the real you shines through.

Well that's that done! Part of it was being asked questions. I was completed flummoxed by being asked what things like angry and sad were like . The puzzle with blocks you have to put together was ridiculously easy, even for someone like me with a spatial IQ very probably in the borderline functioning range. I gave quite matter of fact replies to what was going on in the picture book, didn't embellish . I was explaining factually. The 5 objects task was hard. She choose 5 objects and told a story first. I then had to choose 5 from the remaining objects. It didn't help that I didn't like the remaining objects . My story was very basic.
I was given a choice of explaining how to brush my teeth or how to make tea or coffee. I chose the latter. I had to stand up for that one. I felt such a twat as I got the steps in the wrong order several times. At home I just do it,but having to show the process- eek!!

There wasn't much feedback other than her saying my eye contact wasn't that good. She'd noticed one eye was different(goes inward) which was news to me. Was told I may or may not have to be seen again.

She explained that a diagnosis couldn't be made just from it, but is used as an additional tool to help decide things.

Sounds like it wasn't as bad as your anxiety thought it would be.

When are you likely to get some concrete answers ?

Hi firemonkey, how long did it take you to explain how you make a cup of tea? Did you go into much detail?

It was less stressful than I'd expected.

That's why I hate anxiety with a passion , it always tells me worst case scenario , and worst case scenario has never happened.

I don't think it took me overly long even with retracing my steps several times. I very much stuck to the basics.
