EU Elections? (Brexit Redux)
So I hear there are elections today in Europe. What's going on? I thought the UK already voted to Brexit, but their Feudal Lords apparently didn't like that, so now they have to vote again.
I see the president of Europe (or whatever he is) just called millions of people "stupid nationalists" who "love their own countries":

As we say in America, "You want more Trump? Because that's how you get more Trump."

Last UK polling — that light blue line is the Brexit party:

Yep, that's correct. The UK always has its elections on Thursdays while most other EU countries hold theirs on Sundays.
As for why we're taking part, the UK is still a member of the EU until the moment it formally leaves. As a result, we have to participate in these elections and we would not have been granted the recent extension on when we leave if we had refused to take part. Some people are treating this like a second referendum and are voting accordingly.
Delighted to have the opportunity to exercise my democratic right as a European. Here is to many more!
We get to do this because the Brexiteers have failed to come up with a deal that is acceptable to the country. Liberal democracy finally working as intended. Until they do then we will have to just wait. Strangely, some of the most ardent Brexiteers in Parliament now refuse to vote for Brexit - only the former Remainers seem interested in respecting the so-called "will of the people"!
Interesting to see that, according to Darmok's graph, support for Brexit has dropped from 52% to 37%.
I don't really like much of Junker's politics, but it's impossible not to love his passionate opposition to nationalism. If all conservative politicians were like him then the world would be a much better place. A true statesman.
This statement is disingenuous. People may support Brexit, but still vote labour or conservative over the "Brexit Party." Even an American can see that.

Nonsense. We are doing this because the establishment will not let us leave the EU. Parliament voted to implement article 50 which meant we were to leave the EU with or WITHOUT a deal on the 29th of March. That was stopped by May and the cabinet.
A guy against nationalism a true statesmen?
The democratic vote has been ignored by the establishment. That is not democracy.

Of course. Also a lot of people like me did not bother voting as I have already voted to leave the EU. Not for some deal that keeps us tied to the EU forever and agreeing to a EU Defense Union.

the establishment couldn't figure out what "leaving the EU" was even supposed to mean - they hadn't defined it before the referendum and you voted on a floating signifier.

Because we were meant to vote to stay in to put the issue to bed forever

Well, yes. The point of that statement, in no small part, was to ridicule the ridiculous "they have to vote again!" claim. This is an election on who we want to represent us in Parliament, whereas the referendum was a vote on whether or not we should be part of the EU. They're completely separate issues.

The establishment is full of Brexiteers. They're dead-set on leaving the EU even though everybody knows it is a bad idea. The only reason we haven't left is because most of the Brexiteers kept voting against Brexit when May gave them the chance.
Parliament voted to have a final say on the deal and to prevent a no-deal Brexit. It is Parliament that is reigning in the Brexiteer establishment and protecting us from them. Thank goodness for our MPs doing their jobs properly - that's why we elect them. Of course, I can understand why Brexiteers like yourself would be frustrated with the likes of Steve Baker for refusing to vote for Brexit - they're supposed to represent you and they aren't doing it.
And now there's an impressive amount of brexit party people in the european parliament.
Luckily, the Germans are sending two of their finest satirists, who ran on the slogan "since politics has become a joke, the jokers have become politicians".

If it was full of people who wanted to leave the EU we would have left on the 29th of March. I said the establishment, not parliament. And no, it wasn't just voted against because of those who want to leave, it was also voted against because of party politics and by people who want to stay in. And again May's surrender treaty is not 'brexit'. And no not "everybody" thinks it's a bad idea. The cabinet office had already decided we aren't going anywhere as we are already signed up to the European Defense Union.
No again, we voted to leave with or without a deal on the 29th of March, that was British law and was overridden by International Law hilariously. MP's are committing treason pretty much. They gave the decision over to the people and there was no talk about it having to go through parliament again before the referendum. We're living in a dictatorship. For the last time, May's capitulation treaty keeps us tied to THE EU FOREVER SO THAT IS NOT LEAVING THE EU.

The global popular-revolution-against-aristocracy continues.
Macron Chastened as French Exit Polls Show Narrow Le Pen Win
French President Emmanuel Macron is heading for a narrow defeat to Marine Le Pen in Sunday’s European parliamentary elections, according to exit polls.
Macron’s Republic on The Move will have 22.9% of the vote compared with 23.6% for the nationalist and anti-European National Rally, according to pollsters Ifop. The Greens rose to third with 13.1%, the conservative Republicans got 8% and the Socialists 6.4%. In the last EU vote in 2014 Le Pen beat the conservatives by 4 percentage points with Macron’s Socialist predecessor Francois Hollande trailing in third.
