I am very overweight ie BMI of about 34. I know I should lose weight ,but the thing that stops me making a concerted effort to do so is worrying over the need to buy new clothes as I do so.

I keep thinking I'd have to buy more and more clothes as I lose weight.

I still wear shirts and jumpers from before I lost a hundred pounds. They used to be tight but now look more like dresses! I did have to buy new trousers though. I went from a 46" waist to 28". I bought a new pair every few inches except I already had some at the start that I had previously grown out of as I put the weight on so it wasn't too bad.

I did eventually buy a couple of pairs of jeans, a couple of extra pairs of trousers and a few decent shirts when I was sure I had reached a steady weight. Luckily the trousers I grew out of I was able to give to my son. I bought them all online as I hate shopping.I

I don't think you should let having to buy new clothes stop you. I feel so much better these days, I can't begin to tell you how glad I am to have done it. Intermittent fasting did it for me. I highly recommend it.

I've had that happen to me a few times.

You could wear belts or use safety pins as your clothes start to get too big for you, and if you are good at sewing or know someone who is, you could keep taking the clothes in.

Losing weight is more important than clothes, and it will be worth it. The clothes you get between now and your goal weight don’t need to cost much. Baggy shirts are something a lot of people wear, so you might only need new pants.

When I lost weight it took years to get out of the habit of buying baggy clothes. I still have a problem now if I buy something that I feel is a bit snug... in reality it fits me perfectly.
If you are able to lose weight, do it... don't worry about the clothes.
There are a few shops around here that take clothes in cheaply. Try your local market too.

Definitely check out thrift stores!

Your health is more important than spending a few dollars here and there. Thrift stores even have sales sometimes, so you can often get shirts and pants for a couple of dollars each.

Belt can keep the pants on.

[p.s. SilentJessica, interesting trick with the text colors.]

Just keep wearing your clothes but they will be baggy and loose. Just buy belts to hold your trousers up. A lot cheaper.

I’m thick. Just been trying to suss how to put my braces on for myself . I thought I’d try fitting my braces by laying my trousers back side up and clipping to my trousers then I’d put my trousers on and clip at the front. Only trouble is the clips keep coming off at the back before I can even put my trousers on and fit the front clips .

I got tired of having to wear a belt so my shorts would stay on. I bought half a dozen pairs for $84. They all fit great.
