But he didn't call "The Press" the "enemy of the people."

Every President treats their "opponent" journalists like adversaries----but usually friendly adversaries. They don't make a blanket statement about "The Press."

Trump thinks anybody who doesn't like him is the "enemy". I don't like to throw this word around, but it doesn't take even take a psychologist to figure out that he is a pure narcissist.

I think it depends and I think it's important to work through the tenets of fascism on a personal level. Not just some far off thing that's happening in Washington.

Requirements for Fascism under Benito Mussolini:

1. Authoritarian form of government
2. Ultranationalism
3. Forcible suppression of opposition
4. Economy

Requirements for me to be a fascist:

1. Authoritarian form of government: I want the government as far from me as possible. Keep your hands out of my pockets, keep your hands off my personal weapons, do not tell me what I can and cannot do in my privately owned place of business. Once you get your piece of my pie (taxes), your presence in my life is no longer desired. I'll use the Constitution to govern myself. Good bye.
2. Ultranationalism: if by ultranationalism you mean, 'legal?' I guess so? I hold myself accountable to the law, I'll do the same for anyone else. Get your papers and I'll shake your hand and welcome you.
3. Forcible suppression of opposition: Uh... are you asking if I bash people in the skull :skull: who hold different beliefs than I do? No, that's strictly reserved for lowbrow Antifa.
4. Economy: I believe in the American Dream. When it was sold to my family as immigrants in the late 1800s-early 1900s, no where in it did it say, "C'mon in and sign up for the draw! Woo Hoo!" It was implied that if we wanted better, we must work hard. We took it seriously and we did. I believe in time limited social programs because anyone can fall on hard times. I believe in taking good care of our truly disabled.

Most people I know believe this way. They want nothing to do with violence. Oppressing someone else would require them to participate in society to a degree, they don't want that either. They just want to be left alone.

So, I don't really get it.

A 'Capitalistic Pig' thru-and-thru. But that would be unfair to pigs! :pig:

Big man, pig man
Ha, ha, charade you are
You well heeled big wheel
Ha, ha, charade you are
And when your hand is on your heart
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost a joker
With your head down in the pig bin
Saying 'Keep on digging'
Pig stain on your fat chin
What do you hope to find
Down in the pig mine?
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry.
- Pink Floyd (1977).

I am surprised (maybe naively) how quickly and easily people appear to have fallen into line in their 'teams' behind their leaders.

It's quite commonplace now to see posters supporting either side to regularly throw in the catchphrases and statements that the leaders of their side use, as if they are their own thoughts

I don’t think it will go to either extreme, but our treatment of the centrists and moderates is alarming.
