What do you think is the worst place to live in?

North Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.

Times in which people could be killed in nasty ways based on accusations of witchcraft or religious beliefs. Also, places and times where there was a huge plague outbreak.

I hate small towns. I'm sure they're not necessarily "bad places" to live in for everybody but for me they would be one of the circles of hell.

Maybe I was just unlucky, but my experience with people in small towns or suburbs (in 3 different countries) was that they are very intrusive and gossipy (the nasty and mostly false kind), small-minded, conformist and judgemental of everyone but themselves and those like themselves: foreigners, those of a different race, gay people, those interested in art and culture etc. I'm sure there must be some exceptions somewhere but I'm not talking any chances.

And, as TP mentioned, there's not much to do on top of that.

Same experience here. Big cities are much more tolerant and embracing diversity, people are much less judgemental towards their neighbours.

Of course, there is no comparison to places with ongoing wars or brutal regimes, to be clear about it.

Yeah, obviously.

I like people who are too busy with their lives to show a disproportionate "interest" in what others do - seems to be more common in metropolitan areas.

It's great to be able to choose where you live - I really feel for people here who are stuck in places they hate, it can mess up your life in terrible ways.

Near the equator especially in places like Haiti and South America. It is always hot there with no change in seasons.

Studying geography, I would say the worst place to live geographically would be the Middle East (Esp. Gulf States), because it is mostly desert with almost no forests to get wood to build houses, or rain to collect water and/or to enjoy rainy days.

Geographically their bad to because they are mostly deserts with very little rain or forests to properly sustain a population (One of the reasons Western Europe and Eastern Asia have a large population is due to geography). But it's good for oil production because it has a lot of oil reserves.

I would say China, North Korea, and Syria.

China and North Korea for their communism and Syria for civil war.
