I can relate to pretty much any song by Keith Green, but this is one that I relate to the most at this moment.

"Dust to Dust"

Sometimes it's hard to see
Sometimes it's hard to get through to me
But I wanna do, all that You ask me to!
Oh, help me to follow through
Make everyday a devotion to You
'Cause it's dust to dust
Until we learn how to trust!

Sometimes I wander away
Y'know lost in the dark, my faith starts to sway!
I don't know what to do...
So I cry out to You!
Then I reach out in the air
And I call Your Name, and You're always there!
Then You send down Your Light, and You tell me:
"Walk by faith, not by sight!"
And then You come shinin' down!

I'm putting Your armor on
Finding myself so suddenly drawn
Like a moth to a flame, whenever I hear Your Name!
Oh, help me to follow through!
Make everyday a devotion to You
'Cause it's dust to dust
Until we learn how to trust!

Sometimes I wander away
Y'know lost in the dark, my faith starts to sway!
I don't know what to do...
So I cry out to You!
Then I reach out in the air
And I call Your Name, and You're always there!
Then You send down Your Light, and You tell me:
"Walk by faith, not by sight!"
Then You come shinin' down!

Sometimes it's hard to see
Sometimes it's hard to get through to me
Oh, yeah!
Sometimes it's hard to see
Y'know that sometimes it's hard to get through to me
'Cause it's dust to dust
Until we learn how to trust
Y'know until we learn how to trust!

Sometimes it's hard to see..
Sometimes it's hard to get through to me....

"once i was" by tim buckley-

Once I was a soldier
And I fought on foreign sands for you
Once I was a hunter
And I brought home fresh meat for you
Once I was a lover
And I searched behind your eyes for you
And soon there’ll be another
To tell you I was just a lie

And sometimes I wonder
Just for a while
Will you ever remember me?

Though you have forgotten
All of our rubbish dreams
I find myself searching
Through the ashes of our ruins
For the days when we smiled
And the hours that ran wild
With the magic of our eyes
And the silence of our words

And sometimes I wonder
Just for a while
Will you ever remember me? . . . . Ever remember me?

This album is a classic for sure. I remember listening to it when I was going through a really tough time several years ago, struggling with depression and just trying to get through the day, and it did help.

I'll add another one to this which was a favorite album I discovered around the same time...Burial's Untrue (masterpiece).

Listening to music can be a cathartic experience, because it's almost like you're speaking through the music, to yourself...trying to make a sense out of the music in terms of your own emotions at the time. It's hard not to introject the qualities of the music, as we are impressionable...

Truth is a lot like that for me, especially the Jose James version.

I lucked out - there was a 1000 series press of Burial's remix of Fools Paradise and Four Walls by Massive Attack that I got framed over my bed. I was slowing down on production, even calling it quits for a while, and it was sort of a going away momento.

Right on. I first started listening to electronic music when I was (about) 10. It has stood up over time as one of my favorite genres.

It has a lot of potential for depth that a lot of people might miss just on how many bad bro-step adds pop up on Youtube and other places.

I think people who study one of several kinds of popular modern music in some depth (in particular its lineage), can and should appreciate electronic. For example, someone who studies rock dating back into the 70s, will be aware of an act like Kraftwerk and their pioneering work. They will also likely be aware of someone like Brian Eno, and how his music neighbors also on progressive rock, and how genres blend together in these ways. Someone who likes rap and hip-hop should be aware of trip-hop and thus gain insight into electronic. Etc.

In a nutshell, the late 1960s, through the 1970s, to the early 1980s Pop-Rock music - specific songs, bands, etc. enjoyed are too numerous to mention.

Music that was not too hard, yet not too soft - even some of the soft music pieces were well.........not too soft, and some of the hard rock pieces were well.........not too hard - see why the late 1960s to the early 1980s Pop-Rock remains relatable to this day??

Life Is Sh!t by the Dead Milkmen

I ran into a friend of mine
Said he was gonna take some words and make them rhyme
I said "You can fool some of them some of the time,
But you can only fool half them all of the time"
He said "Yes I do believe this is true,
Would you like to come and sniff some glue?
And we'll fly to where the skies are blue
And look for things both bright and new"

And on a pretty Sunday morning
A bunch of pretty Baptist girls
Linked their pretty hands and they sang
Life is s**t, life is s**t
The world is s**t, the world is s**t
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it

And in the sky I saw Richard Nixon
Smoking a lacey with Mr. Dickson
He said "Son there's something I must say,
I do believe I've found a better way"
And a vision came
And I new it was Bob Crane
And Bob sang:

Life is s**t, life is s**t
The world is s**t, the world is s**t
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it

And when my friend and I were done
We went to rest upon the sun
Cause life takes from us the things we love
And it robs us of the special ones
And it puts them high where we can't climb
And we only miss them all the time

And we sing:
Life is s**t, life is s**t
The world is s**t, the world is s**t
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it
This is life as I know it

Flagpole Sitta by Harvey Danger

I had visions, I was in them
I was looking into the mirror
To see a little bit clearer
The rottenness and evil in me

Fingertips have memories
Mine can't forget the curves of your body
And when I feel a bit naughty
I run it up the flagpole and see who salutes
(But no one ever does)

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in Hell

Been around the world and found
That only stupid people are breeding
The cretins cloning and feeding
And I don't even own a TV

Put me in the hospital for nerves
And then they had to commit me
You told them all I was crazy
They cut off my legs, now I'm an amputee, God damn you

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in Hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live so well

I wanna publish 'zines
And rage against machines
I wanna pierce my tongue
It doesn't hurt, it feels fine
The trivial sublime
I'd like to turn off time
And kill my mind
You kill my mind, mind

Paranoia, paranoia
Everybody's coming to get me
Just say you never met me
I'm running underground with the moles, digging holes
Hear the voices in my head
I swear to God it sounds like they're snoring
But if you're bored, then you're boring
The agony and the irony, they're killing me (whoa)

I'm not sick but I'm not well
And I'm so hot 'cause I'm in Hell
I'm not sick but I'm not well
And it's a sin to live this well
(One, two, three, four)

Me, Myself, I - Joan Armatrading

I sit here by myself
And you know I love it
You know I don't want someone
To come pay a visit

I wanna be by myself
I came in this world alone
Me myself I

I wanna go to China
And to see Japan
I'd like to sail the oceans
Before the seas run dry

I wanna go by myself
I've just room enough for one
Me myself I

I wanna be a big shot
And have ninety cars
I wanna have a boyfriend
And a girl for laughs

But only on Saturdays
Six days to be alone
With just me myself I
Me myself and I
Just me myself I

Don't wanna be the bad guy
Don't wanna make a soul cry

It's not that I love myself
I just don't want company
Except me myself I
Me myself and I
Just me myself I

I sit here by myself
And you know I love it
You know I don't want someone
To come pay a visit

I wanna be by myself
I came in this world alone
Me myself I
Me myself I, me myself and I
Just me myself I

Poison Heart by The Ramones

No one ever thought this one would survive
Helpless child, gonna walk a drum beat behind
Lock you in a dream, never let you go
Never let you laugh or smile, not you

Well, I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart

Making friends with a homeless torn up man
He just kind of smiles, it really shakes me up
There's danger on every corner but I'm okay
Walking down the street trying to forget yesterday

Well, I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
A poison heart, a poison heart, a poison heart, yeah

You know that life really takes its toll
And a poet's gut reaction is to search his very soul
So much damn confusion before my eyes
But nothing seems to phase me and this one still survives

I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
Well, I just want to walk right out of this world
Cause everybody has a poison heart
A poison heart, a poison heart, a poison heart
A poison heart, a poison heart, a poison heart

King Nothing by Metallica

Wish I may, wish I might
Have this I wish tonight
Are you satisfied?
Dig for gold, dig for fame
You dig to make your name
Are you pacified?

All the wants you waste
All the things you’ve chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there’s no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle’s crumbled
And you’re left with just a name

Where’s your crown,
King Nothing?
Where’s your crown?

Hot and cold, bought and sold
A heart as hard as gold
Are you satisfied?
Wish I might, wish I may
You wish your life away
Are you pacified?

All the wants you waste
All the things you’ve chased

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there’s no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle’s crumbled
And you’re left with just a name
Where’s your crown, King Nothing?
Where’s your crown?

I wish I may, I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight
I want that star, I want it now
I want it all and I don’t care how

Careful what you wish
Careful what you say
Careful what you wish, you may regret it
Careful what you wish, you just might get it

Then it all crashes down
And you break your crown
And you point your finger
But there’s no one around
Just want one thing
Just to play the king
But the castle’s crumbled
And you’re left with just a name
Where’s your crown, King Nothing?

Nothing

You’re just nothing
Where’s your crown, King Nothing?
You’re just nothing
Absolutely nothing

Off to never-never land

They control your life, they control all your thoughts
And who you are, sacrificed yourself for friends

Terminate
Yourself

Filled with insecurities
And self-abhorrence
You wish for your own death
But why won't you die

Terminate
Yourself

Waste of space
A burden to the world
Leeching off all of us
Your sickness can't be cured

All the ones you called friends
Are the ones who want you dead

Terminate
Yourself

I just like to preface my song choice by saying, I like pretty much anything from Mike Patton. His newer album Corpse Flower with the French dude... I forgot his name, is great. I like a lot of his instrumental classical like stuff too. But Faith No More has a special place in my heart, I listened to them through adolescents until now.

The song Falling to Pieces always spoke to me and I always felt it somewhat described how I felt, especially as a teenager/young adult.

Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed
Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
But I know
There's a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together

Layin' face down on the ground
My fingers in my ears to block the sound
My eyes shut tight to avoid the sight
Anticipating the end, losing the will to fight
Droplets of "yes" and "no"
In an ocean of "maybe"
From the bottom, it looks like a steep incline
From the top, another downhill slope of mine
But I know, the equilibrium's there
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together

Back and forth, I sway with the wind
Resolution slips away again
Right through my fingers, back into my heart
Where it's out of reach and it's in the dark
Sometimes I think I'm blind
Or I may be just paralyzed
Because the plot thickens every day
And the pieces of my puzzle keep crumblin' away
But I know, there's a picture beneath
Indecision clouds my vision
No one listens

Because I'm somewhere in between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces
Somebody put me together
In between
My love and my agony
You see, I'm somewhere in between
My life is falling to pieces

Somebody put me together
In between
Somebody put me together
In between
Somebody put me together
