I probably need knee surgery but I don't trust anyone with my knees. I've had this issue with them since childhood where if they were touched when they were unbent, I felt like I would faint. I've had the same thing with my elbows but my knees are the worst. Sometimes my knuckles would be like that too. Cracking them actually helped them.

Every doctor wanted to blame it on the autism. Only doctors who thought it could be something unrelated to the autism were a chiropractor and a veterinarian (I used to volunteer at a vet's and wanted the advice of someone who's patients couldn't tell him what was wrong verbally). I even wrote in to an autism parent's web show where they had a supposed "expert" and he was giving strange looks when the hostess was reading my letter, describing how all the doctors passed it off as an autism issue. He said it did not sound like autism.

Anyway, if I ever agree to knee surgery, it will be amputation. That's how bad it is. My mother had knee surgery and it's a miracle she still has legs. She ended up being allergic to the metal and they were put in wrong. She will need surgery again to correct it. Amputation is looking more and more favorable. I'm sure by then they'll have nicer prosthetics...if I can keep the raccoons from stealing them LOL.

"He said it did not sound like autism."

unless you mean your reaction to them being touched, that's the answer

No, it doesn't sound like autism.
I know a good specialist on knee surgery - in Warsaw...

No, my mom asked them spefically about feeling like I would faint if my knees were touched. I didn't like to be touched in general, but tapping me on the shoulder didn't make me feel like I would faint.

Did you get any scans like USG to your knees?
That would be a problem if you faint from touching them but I think it would give some crucial information.
You may me oversensitive because of autism but as the problem is only about your knees (and elbows to lesser extent, right?), there is likely something wrong there to check.
I imagine, without hypersensitivity one would simply complain about soreness and get checked.

Just an X-ray when I sprained my knee. The doctor was an idiot and didn't realize it was a sprain but thought it was an injury to the "growth plate". My knees aren't usually sore and as long as they are bent, they can be touched until the cows come home. I've never had an MRI or CT scan or anything like that. But if I ever need knee surgery, I'm just having my legs amputated. It's THAT bad.

Locally, I could guide you to some valuable docs (rheumatologist and knee surgeon). Maybe there is someone with similar knowledge in your location?

I'm in Cincinnati, Ohio and the doctors I can see for anything is limited due to my insurance.
