And the way the MAGAs keep accusing the Democrats of being racist while defending the racist s**t Trump has done is just a form of political gaslighting.

Am I really the only one who sees through that crap?

I hope violence breaks out between the left and right by the next election. They all deserve to stew in their own muck for allowing that yellow-haired s**thead into the white house.

Good God. The quality of debate on this forum has gone through the floor!

First, AOC is speaking out against Pelosi constantly mocking and belittling her and her allies. Pelosi talks about not attacking fellow Democrats, but she doesn't actually practice what she preaches. Second, AOC has made clear she doesn't think that Nancy Pelosi has "racial animus" against her. What's going on is that Pelosi doesn't like these upstarts in her party. Pelosi represents the interests of big donors and she views AOC and others as threats to her donors; that's why she belittles them. The hypocrisy is the feature of all that, not the bug.

I think this just underscores how bought out most of Congress is, and why we need to overturn Citizens United.

AOC stated that she doesn't think Pelosi is a racist, but also says that that Pelosi makes a habit of picking on woman of color. To me that seems like AOC wanted to play a race card, but realized it was probably a very bad move to outright call the liberal democratic speaker of the house a racist.

Pelosi is doing her job which is to pass a democratic agenda legislature and either force McConnell/Trump to shut it down in order to get election material, or on occasion to actually compromise with them and get some actual legislation passed. She proved during the shutdown that her political acumen is significantly higher than the president's.

AOC is a movement politician whose job apparently is to make as much noise as possible, and sabotage her own leadership at every opportunity because she somehow believes that winning an election in one district in New York made her the representative of the entire youth of the country. In reality AOC represents a fringe element that has no business being in the mainstream, and is only given the time of day, because somehow we elected a populist demagogue on the other end of the spectrum to president.

Pelosi is quite rightly ticked off that a 29 year old freshman former bartender is telling her how to do the job she's been doing for 30 years.

She didn't say Pelosi "makes a habit" of doing that. She said that that was what Pelosi was doing. What is she talking about?

Pelosi since the very beginning has been mocking and demeaning AOC and others. AOC and her allies are getting tired of it:

Of course, you will distort AOC's comment and make it seem like it's just about playing the race card, in order to distract from the fact that Pelosi has been demeaning and belittling AOC and others all this time. Establishment Democrats don't want to have to address their own side's bad behavior, so they twist the issue around and pick quotes out of context.

Well, hell, what else can Pelosi do but attack anyone in the Democratic Party who appears to be interested in shifting the focus back to serving the American people (after four decades of doing the exact opposite?) She has amassed a wealth of over $100 million dollars. I'm sure we all want to see her make it to $200 million before her face melts like the Nazi dude in 'Raider's of the Lost Ark.'

Pelosi HAS been demeaning and belittling AOC and others all the time. This is because Pelosi has felt it necessary to cut these people "down to size." Why? Because AOC and the others represent a dangerously radical agenda that if the democrats support will result in a landslide defeat. Furthermore they constantly undermine the leadership. Pelosi has done everything she can including making glib remarks to sideline AOC and the others.

AOC was interviewed and expressing an opinion that she thinks the speaker has been disrespectful and demeaning. The language she used was:

"It's really just pointing out the pattern, right? We're not talking about just progressives, it's signaling out four individuals,"

"But the persistent singling out ... it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful ... the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color,"

I hate the use of this term, but it's a dogwhistle. Only it's not the "racist" dogwhistle that republicans are accused of using all the time, it's a "SJW" dogwhistle. Why else mention that the 4 individuals of are "women of color" and "We're not talking about just progressives."

It's quite convenient for big donors, isn't it, that the person everybody must be subordinate to is the one (Pelosi) that is in her position because she's the DCC's biggest fundraiser?

https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2018/1 ... eakership/

So everybody must be subordinate to the person who has spent the most time with big donors, who has kissed up to big corporations and the 1% the most. And she must be allowed to cut "down to size" anybody who questions that. That's so convenient for the big donors.

No one has to do anything (except what the governmental rules prescribe). AOC can rail against Pelosi all she wants. Pelosi can make demeaning comments about AOC all she wants. The voters of their respective districts will decide whether they get to keep their jobs. Likewise the U.S. House of Representatives will decide whether they want Pelosi to keep her speaker-ship. Collectively the American people will decide if they want a democratically controlled House or not.

Well, I'm glad to see you acknowledge AOC's right to fight back.

Anyway, the US is effectively an oligarchy. Politicians are far more responsive to the needs and wants of the 1% than they are to those of the 99%:

https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746

The problem is big money in politics. Big money gives an unfair advantage to the politicians who receive it compared to those who don't. Plus, you don't bite the hand that feeds you. If someone is consistently donating large amounts of money to your campaign, you're not going to do anything they seriously don't like; otherwise, they could turn right around and donate to your opponent instead. This is why politicians are so unresponsive to the people, and why so many Americans are so turned off by politics that our turnout is often low.

This is why most developed countries place a limit on campaign donations, or have it to where elections are publicly funded. And I would say they are much more responsive to the people than the US is.
