The effects of earthquakes can be felt quite far away from the epicentre.

It would have been pretty scary!

Our country has fortunately had very few earthquakes. The most serious one was back in 1969 - there were a few deaths - not sure exactly how many, and buildings damaged or destroyed in three towns.

I messed up and thought I was watching a live stream about an earthquake in Los Angeles. It actually happened right where I live.

First internet story about it;

"4.4 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Seattle Area

The quake hit at about 2:52 a.m.

The epicenter of the quake was east of Everett, about one mile from Three Lakes.

NWS Seattle says a Tsunami is not expected.

People across the region are reporting having felt the quake

Wow we really are living in a world where reality and virtual reality can get mixed up! Almost like the Matrix!

Now I am seeing 4.7

"SEATTLE — The U.S. Geological Survey has confirmed that a 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit just outside of Seattle, Washington, early Friday morning.

The quake hit Three Lakes, Washington, less than 50 miles outside of Seattle, at 5:51 a.m., or about 2:51 a.m. Seattle time, USGS said.

USGS said the depth of the quake was about 6 km, or about 3.7 miles.

The National Weather Service’s Seattle branch confirmed the quake on Twitter as well, writing “Just had an earthquake here at the office,” at 5:52 a.m. (Eastern Time).

This is a developing story; check back for updates and get the PIX11 News app to stay informed all day.

What does 4.6 feel like?

We could feel the 1985 Mexico City earthquake here, but barely.

I don’t want to think about how the 1960 Chile earthquake felt.

It’s a moderate earthquake.

It causes cans of food to come off shelves. Things like that. It would probably wake you up.

A 4.7 probably wouldn’t cause structural damage to most buildings—unless they were very badly built.

A 4.7 would be big news in most of the US east of the Mississippi.

I've never experienced an earthquake in life.

Some years back, there was a 5.2 in Southern Illinois about 175 miles from where I live. It shook things pretty well and definitely freaked me out. Until then, I'd only experienced minor tremors. It's a freaky feeling!

Charleston, SC had a strong one in the 1880s, and the New Madrid earthquake in 1811 could be felt as far away as Boston.

We had earthquake swarms a few years back. They think it was fracking related. It shook hard enough one time for the headboard of the bed to start slapping against the wall.It looked like ghosts were sexing it up.The worst damage was it cracked all my dry wall.

I live in an old wood frame house and was on the 2nd floor.
It felt like my room was swaying back and forth and I could hear the beams creaking.
It built up in intensity and lasted around 10 seconds.
