Political Gaslighting

Gaslighting is basically a form of psychological abuse where a person targets a victim by convincing the person and their family and friends that the individual is crazy and/or stupid, causing them to doubt their own sanity.

This is exactly the kind of dirty tactic Trump and his supporters have been using to defeat his opponents by destroying our trust in the media and now working his way to Facebook and Twitter. Any time people point out that Trump is racist, sexist, and homophobic his supporters turn around and scream "No it is YOU guys who are racist, sexist, and homophobic!"

They have been screaming this at me for so long I actually started to believe it, thus showing that I myself am becoming a victim of political gaslighting too.

Trump and his MAGAs are like a tornado destroying everything in their path.

No, but I'm at least sane enough to see the harmful effects Trump is having on the American people. He's a monster. I don't even have to watch the news to see this around me.

If he were a good leader he would unite his people together instead of tearing them apart. He's kicking a hornet's nest around for laughs and soon somebody is going to get stung.

I've always known that the media was politically biased, but Trump has exploited the HELL out of that through his gaslighting tactics. He has now created paranoia in the country the same way McCarthy made Americans paranoid in the 1950's about how everyone who was against conservatism was supposedly an evil "communist".

On this site, my experience is that liberal posters will do this.

Commonly, they attack autistic traits, like, "you aren't showing emotion".

They insinuate something is wrong with you, because you aren't displaying expected emotions on a topic.

And then there's people who tell me I must be "faking" aspergers because I happen to be overly emotional in my posts.

I think I'm like that only because of my bipolar disorder...

Over empathy is an autistic trait. Lack of empathy is a stereotype.

Are you though ? Can you tell the difference ? Are you just passionate about certain causes ?

I think there are two issues here:

1) People who use a certain un-engaging rhetoric style. The whole playing chess with a pigeon or wrestling with a pig thing. You play chess with a pigeon, it doesn't matter how smart you play the pigeon is still going to knock pieces over, crap on the board and strut around like it won. Likewise the wrestling with a pig saying is don't wrestle with a pig, you both get dirty and the pig likes it. Both these sayings amount to the same thing. If you engage with someone whose explicit rhetorical style is not to engage but just to sling mud it will accomplish nothing, get you upset, and have the other party feeling victorious. Another saying in this vein: never argue with a fool, onlookers won't be able to tell the difference.

2) The pervasive existence of hypocrisy and double standards across the political spectrum. Right wingers can credibly call SJW racists/sexists because well many positions espoused by SJW carry a double standard on racist/sexist grounds. Likewise SJW can credibly call right wingers racist because a number of self described right wingers are white nationalists. This applies to a number of other topics as well. Republicans piled onto Hillary Clinton for using a private email, conveniently forgetting Colin Powell did the same thing. This tends to devolve into "Yeah [my team] did this but [your team] did that, which is SO MUCH WORSE!"

Equivalent to The Fool in Tarot.

Trump is definetly 'The Fool' (more like The King of Fools), turning those whose love him and those who hate him into fellow fools.
