Sometimes I think in black and white but I don't think I habitually think in black and white. For example, if my supervisor at work told me to just sweep the floors today and no mopping, if I see a floor that's really dirty I'll still go and get the mop without having to be asked. Some literal thinkers might think that "sweeping and mopping only, no mopping" means "no mopping at all under any circumstances", instead of "mopping doesn't need to be done today, unless you see a floor that is really dirty". The only time the literal no mopping under any circumstances may apply is if there was no mops available to be able to do it.

^An example of "common sense."

It almost always works----unless the boss is an absolutely literal thinker.

I think black and white thinking can definitely be a part of ASD but I don't think it necessarily affects every factor or every aspect of that autistic person's way of thinking. It can manifest differently.
