Analysis conducted by the Washington post based on data collected by the Anti-Defamation league found that counties that had hosted a 2016 Trump campaign rally saw a 226 percent increase in reported far right hate crimes over comparable counties that did not host such a rally.

Any wonder the Mayor of El Paso has asked Trump not to visit their community while they are in mourning, the FBI have already said these shootings will inspire copy cats and Trump's visit is the catalyst

Is that a 226% increase in actual crimes, or of reporting of such crimes? Reporting a potential crime does not mean a crime has been commited. It might mean certain people are more likely to report what they perceive as crimes, rightly or wrongly... or the reports may be vexatious.
Maybe the anti defamation league have an axe to grind.
Much as I dislike Trump, this may just be another "damned statistic" that does not tell the whole story. I am automatically suspicious of percentages because they do not reference a baseline... 1 crime reported in week one... 2 crimes reported in week two, 100% increase!

The data is in double digits so...not 1 becomes 2...

Additionally, it is hard to discount a “Trump effect” when a considerable number of these reported hate crimes reference Trump. According to the ADL’s 2016 data, these incidents included vandalism, intimidation and assault.

What’s more, according to the FBI’s Universal Crime report in 2017, reported hate crimes increased 17 percent over 2016. Recent research also shows that reading or hearing Trump’s statements of bias against particular groups makes people more likely to write offensive things about the groups he targets.

One of the first things that happened the day after Trump won in 2016 was a spate of swastika and white power graffiti. The Steve Bannon inspired strategy to get Trump into the whitehouse worked, and the neuvo right even had defense that it was "fake" by claiming democrats scrawled racist graffiti to discredit trump.

The Washington Post once again goes overboard and puts out ridiculously high numbers. What was the last one again, Trump tells 856 lies per hour?

I mean from what I have seen of his rallies its not surprising they could encourage a rise in such crime.

That said I am skeptical of 226% is that all confirmed hate crimes or reported hate crimes? Even so 226% seems like a weird number.

It's amazing what people will believe if it's put on paper.

There has been a rise in hate crimes since Trump became president, but I do question some of the statistics because, I know statistics have their flaws. Also it would be more useful to see something like what the rate of hate crimes occured in these areas was previously and how many more there are now....saying its increased by 226% without any kind of base stat doesn't really say anything useful. Also the article says this was reported hate-crimes, but not that they were all confirmed as such.

I don't think the article is wrong about Trumps rhetoric playing into the issue however.

I seriously doubt any police agency categories their hate crimes based on political spectrum.

Which is why Trump calls any publication that criticises his presidency as "fake news". It's all very convenient and the GOP supporting public continue to believe him like the dumb f***s they are

The anti-defamation league specifically collect this data

Police don't categorize crimes based on "left" and "right".

So, there is no such thing as "far right hate crimes".

I think maybe cyberdad is hoping he can convince around 5 people here to not vote for Trump.
