It involves closing my right eye. It occurs more outdoors/in a car than indoors, but does happen both in and outdoors . It's not something I purposely do .

That is interesting. It could be a stim. Does it feel good?

It doesn't feel bad ,but doesn't feel overly good either(though I will say my ability to feel positive emotions is blunted) I'm not particularly stressed when it happens, so I am doubting it's a stim .To be honest I don't know why it happens .

Sounds as if this is a possibility:

Thanks for posting that. I looked at it. I don't think it fits. My stepdaughter has suggested it could be due to glare.

Maybe your eye is just fatigued and taking break. That would make sense. It could possibly be weaker than the other one.

I close my left eye all the time. It seems to take extra muscle power to hold it open. My vision is worse in my left eye, but my glasses are adjusted to correct the difference and it still happens. I do have lazy eyes (both of them), and after my stroke I had ptosis, but the shutting of my left eye has been since childhood. The next time you get new glasses, let the doctor know.

Are you attempting to cut down on visual input?
Perhaps subconsciously?
I do this with a ceiling reset (I'll look up)

That's a good question. I'm not consciously attempting to do so, but don't dismiss the possibility I'm doing it subconsciously .

Maybe unrelated . It's gone from dull to to quite bright outside(looking through the living room window) and it's having a definite negative effect on my eyes.

If you go see a professional about this matter, he can probably help you find out what it is or atleast what its called.
To be honest, sometimes I can learn a lot about something all on my own, just by knowing the name of the problem/disease/habit or whatever.
But i've seen worse things, this isn't a big deal.

I do the same thing if it really sunny outside. I tend to wear a hat if I am out for a long time. Do you sneeze when you go out into bright sunlight?

Suppose I should wear sunglasses to protect my eyes, but I don't like the way everything is coloured brown when wearing them.

I don't sneeze in bright sunlight. I used to wear clip on sunglasses , but as I don't go out much I haven't done so for ages.

I like that idea. I do a similar reset but using the floor. I did not realize that I was resetting until I read your post. Thank you for posting that.

I've done that my whole life, it mostly happens outside because it's too bright sometimes.
