When you’ve had a history of *fill in the blank* it’s easy to think something is wrong every time you do something slightly unusual—even if it’s nothing like the past and it doesn’t cause problems. People do all kinds of silly things, but not to the extent that it causes major issues usually.

For example, it’s normal to get angry in public every once in awhile, as long as it’s not physically or psychologically hurtful, and you don’t do it all the time. Eating more than a serving of cookies is not binge eating, if you’re eating two or three servings and not ten. Buying clothes every month isn’t compulsive shopping, unless you’re buying thousands of dollars worth of clothes—it just means you like to shop. And it’s normal to feel sad or anxious for a reason, as opposed to feeling that way for no reason.

Does anyone else think every action or feeling is problematic, after struggling?

Yes but it is not just me

It is the entire counseling industry

Counselors tend to be way too dramatic

The more they can exaggerate the alleged problem, the more $$$ they can justify charging to solve the alleged problem
