Not that i'd have a chance of working for microsoft (assuming i'd want to, given they rip you off with expensive software), the steps taken to get there for myself would be impossible to achieve: funding for bachelors degree, degree needed as well as industry experience which may also ask for a degree to hand, rigorous interviewing and screening process most likely in the form of an aptitude test, group exercise and possibly a panel interview given the company's reputation and volume of applicants. Having experienced a taste of what these activities entail, safe to say i'm screwed if i'm looking to get a career in software development unless i dedicate all my free time to building programs instead of using them.

Try remote work, it's a viable alternative. I'm living off it for many years.

All that interviewing and stuff does not seem autism-friendly. It sounds like they are just doing their same old hiring process, except everyone they put through it will have autism. The whole point of an autism-specific job thing should be that the process should be autism-friendly.

I'd say that it's rather anti-autism.

Here are my questions.

1. Who are the autistics they've hired so far?

2. How long did they last?

3. Are they really hiring autistics because they see value in them or is it all a dog and pony show just to make themselves look good.

4. And, what is the ratio of them hiring people who were born and live in the USA vs those with HB-1 Visas?

I'd add - are they still doing it now, a year and a half later?

I know that absence of evidence is not evidence of absence but have we heard from any autistic who went through the program of Microsoft and it benefited them? Has anyone written on wrongplanet? Have they written about their experiences anywhere else even in articles like yahoo or something?

I tried applying to their program back in 2015.

Quote:
Hi [name removed],

Thank you for your interest in our program.

Specialisterne works to enable jobs for high functioning people with autism, and similar challenges, through social entrepreneurship, innovative employment models and a national change in mindset.

In collaboration with our corporate partners, Specialisterne provides a 4-8 week assessment and training program for those on the Autism Spectrum focused on tasks in the corporate world.

Eligibility for assessment & training:-
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must as a minimum have either received a high school diploma or GED
Must have an official diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder

After completion of the program, and depending on the fit, trainees are considered for employment with one of our corporate partners, once positions become available. Microsoft is one of our corporate partners.

The Microsoft Autism Pilot Program in Washington State began in May. Many of the Microsoft positions were for experienced coders with strong skills with C# and C++. Bachelor and Master degrees level candidates were sought for these desirable roles. It is our hope to launch another Microsoft program in the coming months, and we will keep you in mind for the next round.

Specialisterne USA, also has programs in other locations across the nation and partner with other agencies and employers.

Specialisterne USA currently has activity in Pennsylvania, California, Delaware, North Dakota, Seattle and New York. We are also launching recruitment activities in Washington DC, Virginia, and South Carolina.

Please follow the link below and complete the survey regarding your interest. We will review it and contact you with further details if applicable.

Best Regards,
The Specialisterne USA staff
http://usa.specialisterne.com/

They want experienced coders. Even if I read the book, taught myself the languages or went to a class and got my certification they still want years of experience.

Honestly, do you think most autistics with our employment track record is going to have this? All microsoft will say is that they couldn't find a lot of people with the experience required.

In other words, it is a PR media stunt and they are full of s**t and so is Specialisterne.

They want to look like they're helping and doing good but really they want to make themselves look good. That's it.

I am sure you will find a niche for yourself cube. I bet you are really talented and without all the stress of employment and all the things we discussed that have defeated you, you will do great things.

My wife and I started our own business and I've been working on our own business. I'm trying to learn SEO.

And, I know you're dealing with a lot of emotional baggage yourself in the other thread. I'm sorry I burdened you with my BS.
