I had an appointment with a psychiatrist at my younger brother’s urging. I had seen this person before to try a medicine change but it didn’t work out. She thinks anti-depressants are a dead end for me and I should consider ECT or TMS. One of my older cousins had to undergo the former and it’s apparently helped her but I don’t know how well it will work for me. I doubt it will completely ‘cure’ me from depression.

I do not know what the terms mean so I can not tell you what is best. I hope that you are ok and will feel happy again. :)

If this is not a rude question, could you please tell me what prescription psychotropics you were on and their side effects?

What reason did your psychologist tell you, was why antidepressants would not "help" you?

If that is a rude question, please ignore

ECT is usually a temporary measure to get someone out of suicidal depression while waiting for antidepressants or other medication to work. At least that's how it was for me.

Or you could get what they call "maintenance ECT" where you have a treatment once a month or so.

I'm not familiar with TMS, sorry.

Whatever happens, I hope you end up feeling better.

Age 21 Prozac, too tired to feel anything. (That could be a good thing)

24 Ativan

36 effexor and propranolol . Could not sleep and exhausted next day

Zoloft, weight gain, itchy, bowel movement, lethargic

Wellbutrin prescribed but not taken because seizure. The psychiatrist told the Dr that the seizure threshold is 450 mg and my dose much lower but maybe the standard deviation is 200. Some articles claim that one out of four autistics have epilepsy.

Dr etchiverri and the psychiatrist acted like they earn commission

Doctors are human with their own felony conviction, psychiatric diagnoses, prejudice, stock market investment

Depression is getting out of control lately

Next week at the doctor appointment want to talk to Dr about if insurance pays for electroconvulsive therapy or transcranial magnetic imaging

I wish you all the best results, Brother Marknis!

Just because you don't feel like they would work doesn't mean you won't get pleasantly surprised. Doesn't guarantee it, but still could help.

Hope it works well for you. I didn't think seeing a psychologist would help me any and it ended up basically mending my mind...at least well enough to save all the good parts of being an Aspie and help me deal with the bad parts. Hopefully you'll get better results from this than from your medicines.

Electroconvulsive Therapy and Transcranial magnetic stimulation.

If they don’t help me to finally be able to have a girlfriend, I will snap.

Whatever would enable you to stand on your own feet and leave Texas, I guess.

If I can’t live in Austin, I would leave Texas. But if I can’t do either action, I am doomed to suffer until I die.

Read up on both these things thoroughly.

Read first-person accounts of both thoroughly.

I am leaning more towards TMS but if it doesn’t work, it will be proof positive my brain is malfunctioning and it will have to be destroyed. David Foster Wallace claimed the reason why people who commit suicide by shooting themselves in the head is because they hate their brains.

There is evidence that TMS can help strengthen the insulation between micro columns in the cortex, helping against core asd syptoms.

Basically a mal formed cortex is the reason for most autism symptoms, with messages intended for one micro column short circuiting and ending up in another. An autistic brain lacks the space between the columns creating insulation.

So worth a try good luck with whatever you choose and let us all know how you got on.

I might have to wait until next year for any sort of treatment. I feel like I have a broken bone but the treatment is put on hold.

Is this brain "malfunctioning" or does it just function differently? You don't seem that "off" here, just really sad, and I hope you can find something to feel better.

I found out that people have been discussing me on another forum about getting potentially getting either procedure. I hope my detractors haven’t been the ones doing this.
