Yep.

But there's lots of the non-subtle variety, too. You would be surprised.

My parents are/were very intelligent . They weren't abusive necessarily , but weren't emotionally very warm .
Maybe that was par for the course for a middle class family from the late 50s to mid 70s.

I do notice however that there's much more affection and warmth between my stepdaughter and her children .
