US kills top Iranian general in Baghdad

Trump tweeted an American flag as an American airstrike killed Iranian General Qassim Soleimani at Baghdad International Airport. This appeared to be in retaliation for a siege by protesters of the US Embassy in Baghdad:

Of course, this all goes back to Trump reneging on our nuclear agreement with Iran.

And I'm kinda curious as to what an Iranian general was doing in Baghdad.

isn't destroying an entire region of the world just fantastic?

maybe nothing more will come out of this, i think i heard the iranian leadership wanted this guy dead anyway but either way i hope i get to see the criminals hang in my lifetime.

Up until now Trump has been the epitome of speak loudly and carry a small stick notably publicly calling off a strike on Iran at the last minute. Combined with Obama's non red line in Syria the Iranians had every logical reason they could get with anything.

My guess is that the primary concern was Trump's reelection. Trump is old enough to remember the Iran hostage crises costing Jimmy Carter reelection and the parallels were too much for him to ignore.

This is an act of war.

I hope the US is ready for all possibilities(including a simultaneous war with N. Korea as that has been heating up). I doubt it because Trump most likely did this on impulse.

I'd be surprised if he did.
Trump demonstrably doesn't want to get involved with prolonged "Police Action" and wars,
And has drawn back previously action against Iran (The retaliation of the drone downing) and extricated America in the Middle East, as examples.

My best guess is that he equates long term military action with draining/weakening the non-military economy.
He is a businessman, after all, remember.
