It has a 30 - 70% mortality rate, in general.

There are very few cases of it outside India—thus far.

yep....that's what they're saying.

This fungus is fairly rampant in India; there are isolated cases in other place around the world. They're speaking of around 5,000 cases so far in India.

Wuhan lab staff sought hospital care before COVID-19 outbreak disclosed - WSJ
Quote:
Three researchers from China's Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) sought hospital care in November 2019, a month before China reported the first cases of COVID-19, the Wall Street Journal reported on Sunday, citing a U.S. intelligence report.

The newspaper said the previously undisclosed report - which provides fresh details on the number of researchers affected, the timing of their illnesses, and their hospital visits - may add weight to calls for a broader investigation into whether the COVID-19 virus could have escaped from the laboratory.

The Journal said current and former officials familiar with the intelligence expressed a range of views about the strength of the report's supporting evidence, with one unnamed person saying it needed "further investigation and additional corroboration."

The first cases of what would eventually be known as COVID-19 were reported at the end of December 2019 in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, where the advanced laboratory specialising in coronavirus research is located.

China's foreign ministry spokesman, Zhao Lijian, said on Monday that it was "completely untrue" that three members of staff at WIV had fallen ill.

"The United States continues to hype up the lab leak theory," he said. "Does it care about traceability or is it just trying to distract attention?"

Asked about the report, WHO spokesman Tarik Jasarevic said via email that the organisation's technical teams were now deciding on the next steps. He said further study was needed into the role of animal markets as well as the lab leak hypothesis.

A U.S. National Security Council spokeswoman had no comment on the report but said the Biden administration continued to have "serious questions about the earliest days of the COVID-19 pandemic, including its origins within the Peoples Republic of China."

Fauci bombshell: 'Not convinced' COVID-19 developed naturally outside Wuhan lab
Quote:
Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and President Biden's chief medical adviser, is supporting an open investigation of the coronavirus origins, saying earlier this month he is “not convinced” it developed naturally.

When asked about whether the virus originated naturally, Fauci said that he wants to look closer into the matter, according to Fox News.

“I am not convinced about that. I think we should continue to investigate what went on in China until we continue to find out to the best of our ability what happened," Fauci said, speaking to PolitiFact’s Katie Sanders at an event.

"Certainly, the people who investigated it say it likely was the emergence from an animal reservoir that then infected individuals, but it could have been something else, and we need to find that out. So, you know, that's the reason why I said I'm perfectly in favor of any investigation that looks into the origin of the virus," he continued.

jimmy!! :( :( :(

I just started thinking that I haven't seen you post for a long time. I went in your posting history and found this just now. I had no idea because I didn't see it before. I know you might not be able to read this but I pray you are doing a little better and continuing to recover.

I had a major stroke in 2015 so I can appreciate how scary this is for you and your family. I had diplopia (double vision) and my left eye didn't work for quite some time because it was angled incorrectly. I had to wear eye patches and do Visual Retraining therapy as part of Vestibular Rehab.

I'm typing way too many words. I'm sorry, but I have a lot of empathy for what you're experiencing. I hope someone can read you these posts so you know that people care.

Sending you all the best.

I suffered a major stroke two weeks ago. It affected me in two ways. My eyes changed. My right eye decided it was time for a vacation and shifted over to my left eye. So both my eyes became left eyes. The doctors figured out this problem and it was not difficult to fix. I blinded my left eye for around five days a week and my right eye began to move back about ten degrees per day. After 4 days it moved around 40 degrees and my eyesight returned somewhat back to normal.

The second way it affected me was my ability to read. This is really strange. I cannot read but I can still write. So right after the stroke, I couldn't read a single word. I lost around 300,000 words in a few minutes. What is so strange is that I can still write. I cannot read but I can write. Strokes can be really strange. As time went on I have been slowly beginning to learn to read again. But it will be a slow journey. After a few days I began to recognize my name. Then the next day my wife's name. Initially it took me 20 hours to read one word. But I am improving and can read a word in 1 to 2 minutes now. Still slow but it is a start. Strokes affect people differently. In my case this is the major affect. It will probably take me around 6 months to return back to normal or at least somewhat close to normal. It could be worse, far worse.

Now I think this stroke was a function of age and not COVID related. After all I am 72 years old and this condition affects old people. I came home around 3 days ago after spending a week and a half in the hospital. It will be a slow process.

You should make a thread and put this in the news section, or add it to my own.
There are some '"flat earthers" who need convincing that the possibility is real. 8)

I can only speak for myself, but the possibility of a lab leak is plausible, as it has happened in the past (not on this scale though) and evidence for the natural transmission hypothesis isn't rock solid. And I think we can agree that the WHO report left much to be asked, not just because one inspector had conflict of interest.

Going from the hypothesis of an accidental lab leak to deliberate weaponisation is a whole different ball game though, and that's where I think it currently steps into the realm of conspiracy theory.

Investigation is reasonable and maybe prudent. It might help prevent future pandemics.

In the mean time, let's concentrate on getting past the current Pandemic. It is still a world problem. Whether it is natural, lab accident, or Martian urban renewal it is still killing a lot of people.

I couldn't find the English source but I read that researchers found a weak point of the coronavirus family that could give a chance to develop a super vaccine for all coronavirus variants even the future variants.

Have you read anything similar?
