I only got diagnosed aspergers last year at the age of 47. The psychiatrist who diagnosed me told me my autism presented in a way that is subtle and more typically seen in women on the spectrum. The “female autism phenotype”.

This made sense to me. I was never a “macho” kind of guy, more sensitive and creative. I had few behavioural problems as a kid, I get depressed when abused instead of angry. I try to fit in by trying to please everyone around me, to my own determent. My problems with empathy are with being too empathic and easily overwhelmed. My time on wrong planet has made me realise that these things are more often reported by female members, but I suspect that there are other males with this “female autism phenotype”.

Any other aspie males out who there who can relate to what I'm talking about?
