I read a fairly long article today about C-19 being expected to spread like wildfire through American prisons, that have ~2.3M incarcerated in them, and an expected death toll of up to 100k prisoners. The article also said riots are anticipated as inmates get angry at the conditions they’re kept in being prime to spread the deadly virus.

I’d imagine US prisons are a bit better than the ones in this article, but not by much. It’s very possible they could see C-19 riots and escape attempts just the same, no?

If the virus gets in there it is seriously going to be bad.The food is also terrible,overly processed high sodium, high fat, white carbs, so the inmates probably have low immune systems.Overcrowding means it will spread like wildfire.
Many African Americans have the health problems that put them at high risk for death by covid,diabetes and high blood pressure.
I doubt their Governor cares if they die.
I have a family member in jail right now.They were scheduled for court but right before the courts all shut down for safety.Now they are in limbo and can’t get bail since the results of the psych evaluation have been delayed also.They don’t get any fresh fruit, nothing to build up their immune systems.
In a way he would be better off in an Arkansas penitentiary since they do grow most of their own food and have access to outdoor activities.
I think all non-violent criminals should be considered for early release.Send them home.

I read that there’s a fundraiser going on to bail out as many prisoners from Rikers Island in NY rn because that place is a total C-19 death trap, too.

We know someone what works at a provincial maximum security prison here in BC. Apparently there are no known cases there yet, but there are a couple at another BC prison. I’m sure they’re not exactly luxury hotels, but I bet living conditions are better in prisons here than the stereotypical American one.

The movie Brubaker was based on an Arkansas prison years ago.
It’s improved from that thankfully.My bio mom was CO at Tucker and Cummins men’s max unit later on.
I would have actually thought Canada has better.

Prison should be more punishment than just telling someone what small town they have to live in. It’s not supposed to be pleasant. But it shouldn’t necessarily be violent or completely unsanitary. Somewhere in between.
